Yep, Lynda,
Even tho' my college days at Cornell are almost 20 years behind me (amazing...), that song did it for me, too, back then. There we were, in the middle of the New Wave/Punk thing on campus, but what song always managed to shut up the trendy kids at the local bar (The Royal Palms off College Ave)??----yep, "One for My Baby (and One for the Road)". All the booths had their own private mini-jukeboxes, and even thho' we barely had enough money to scrape up for our pitchers of some incredibly cheap beer, we always made sure we had a quarter to pop in to hear
FAS croon this mournful tune to us. Frank's delivery, timing, and those great lyrics--they might have been Barney Sloan singing, but for us, it was a liittle slice of our lives, what with our feeling like lonely outcasts, at times, away at college, away from our loved ones....I can certainly identify with your son. Now if we can just keep him away from all that booze I went through getting thru those tough times!!
