I don't think that you can get any better than a lead vocal with a beautiful orchestral backing and a great arrangement of a standard (or a NEW ... to be... standard) song. Just lovely.
As a vocalist, I would do EXACTLY what
FS did. Think deeply about the message in the song. Live it in your mind to the degree that NOTHING ELSE was in there. Then record it. You can't hide, can you, in music?. Your feelings show in the song. If you feel the music it transmits to the listener. You have the ability, the talent. You have lived life to the full and have experienced it all. It will come through in your music.. it DOES come through, I should say.
