I've taken the liberty of copying the following informative post from another thread:

Hi Alon,

I think you are referring to the song "Ever Homeward".

Sinatra's then usual songwriter team of Sammy Cahn and Jule Styne wrote the tune, based on a very popular Polish folk song by Kasimiercz Lubomirski. Cahn and Styne wrote it in 1947 for Sinatra to sing it in his movie "The Miracle Of The Bells" (RKO 1948).

Sinatra recorded the version heard on the film soundtrack in two parts (during the actual scene filming) on August 19 and 20, 1947, in Los Angeles, singing it a-capella. There was no pre-recording made for the film as it would usually be the case.

A few months later, on December 8, 1947 at Liederkranz Hall in New York City, Sinatra also recorded "Ever Homeward" commercially for the Columbia label. Axel Stordahl wrote the arrangement and he also conducted the orchestra for the session.

The soundtrack version has been released on the recent 6 CD Set "Sinatra In Hollywood" (Reprise), CD 2 track #28.

The Columbia recording was released on a 78rpm single and also on a V-Disc at the time, and is now easiest to find on the "Columbia Years" complete box set (CD 8).

An alternate take from the same Columbia recording session appeared on a Columbia vinyl LP "In Hollywood" in 1969 but (to my knowledge) remains unissued on CD so far.

On January 31, 1982, Sinatra appeared on an American TV Special called "Let Poland Be Poland" that addressed current political events in there, making a small speech and featuring his recording of the song.

"Ever Homeward" is noteworthy for being the only time that Sinatra sang lyrics in Polish language.

Hope this helps - good luck with your radio show and many musical greetings to Israel!

Bernhard.
