Christianity and our Country

I feel lost on the Forum because when I mention my love for my country I am chastised and now when I mention Jesus Christ I feel the same way.

It is my understanding that our country was founded on Christianity.

Also that Christianity was not a negative thing so when one spoke of it they should be proud, as I am.

I welcome your comments.

I am proud of my faith as well

I respect that people have different religions. Not all believe in Jesus Christ and we must respect that.
I personally am Christian but people don't want to have other religions forced down their throats.
I'm sorry if people were chastising you about posting on Jesus is that what happened? If so that's not nice people should respect your faith.

Happy Easter,
Melissa

I would say our country was founded on the principle of Religious Freedom.

Burt,
I am sorry if you were chastised for talking about Jesus that's not right.
I love my country very much but I am upset about the direction it is taking right now- that doesn't mean I want to go somewhere else- I can love my country and disagree with the government- it doesn't have to be an either-or proposition. I hope you can respect that- I certainly respect you and your opinions.

You know, faith is a personal experience and when people post in a public forum, such as this, it is vital to be delicate how you post such sensitive issues. Burt, I saw your thread last night and it said, "Jesus died for us: Happy Easter." That came off as rather righteous.

I personally don't think there is anything wrong with starting a thread about Christianity in America but Friendly Chatter may not be the place for it. There is another room in SFF to talk about faith and values.

Your misinterpretation, to me it is just a fact.
Nothing pompous, not self righteous, just a fact.

Another Room for this thread

Greg,

I am not sure what thread you are talking about but I hope we can just keep this as friendly.

Burt: What is to you a "fact" is to others a matter of faith. That is why it comes across as preaching or disconcerting to those who do not accept it as "fact".

So you don't believe in what the Bible teaches?

If that is true then I can see your point of view.

Burt I was referring to "Circle of Prayer." If this topic is important to you, you could create a thread there and discuss it with others who have an interest in it too.

Two

Greg, that is why I stared this thread.

Ron, because that is what we all post on this thread, our beliefs, if your belief is not what the Bible teaches you can just say it.

Hi Burt,

It shouldn't matter what others believe as long as you are grounded in your faith and you know what you believe.
Please don't let yourself feel threatened or hurt here. I think most people I know of on the SFF will respect your faith.

Burt: You stated your belief that "our country was founded on Christianity".

My belief is that it was founded on the principle of "Religious Freedom".

But if you are correct it begs the question of which denomination or branch of Christianity?

Did the "Founding Fathers" all belong to the same denomination?

Were there none of the Jewish faith?

Were there none who may have been athiests?

Why did the Pilgrims come?

Why did the Puritans come?

Why did the Calvinists come?

Why did the Catholics come?

Burt, I could never understand why you just cannot accept that not everyone shares your beliefs, or why you insist on feeling insulted. To you "Jesus died for your sins" is a fact. To others, it simply is not. Sharing your personal beliefs is one thing, but to present them as facts is preaching. It's something that belongs in your church among people who believe as you do. IMHO.

The basis of all Christian religion is the Catholic Church.

I was born and raised as a Methodist and in always said, in the Apostles Creed, that we believe in the Holy Catholic Church., it has now been changed to the Universal Church (same thing).

You continue to avoid the question about believing in the Bible.

< or why you insist on feeling insulted.>

THAT'S IT!!! This forum has many topics and faith is not the main topic here... Frank Sinatra is. Nancy and the Mods have given us a place to duscuss such specific topics but this board is not going to aliegn itself with your beliefs, Burt. And you should not feel insulted for it, debate is healthy.

It shouldn't matter if Sarbo believes in the bible or not.

It only matters what you believe. That's what is important, Even if others don't share your beliefs.
