Eurovision Song Contest
I really don t know, if you have seen "the Eurovison Song Contest" on TV yesterday evening. Well, I have seen it, normally I am Fan from that Show, but yresterday evening it was a little bit boring, I thing especially theWinner Song "Molitva" from Marija Serfovic from Serbia. Our German Song "Frauen regieren die Welt" from Roger Cicero took only Place on Number 19., I think that Song was much much better than that Position. I think it was not very fair :-(, because the East European Countries gave their Points to each other. So, please don t hit me, it is only my Opinion. Best Wishes Bernd |

I totally agree with you, the East European countries give most points to their neighboring countries, and it's been so ever since they joined the contest a few years ago. Lituania will vote for Latvia, Finland, Russia and Ukraine, Macedonia will vote for Serbia, Bulgaria and Moldavia, and so forth. There should be rules about this, especially considering that the "old" countries in the contest have ceased to display such solidarity a long time ago... Also the Russians sing in English, the Moldavs in Italian, the Ukrainians in pseudo-German... It is all nonsense!
I really appreciated the courage and professionalism of Germany's jazz crooner. His song about women ruling the world was really very good... At least he did things "his way" and did not try to follow the trend. And the fact that he wound up there shows that the German public who elected him probably have a better ear for music than many of their European neighbors... |

Completely rubbish and pointless show.
A pathetic excuse for a voting system, riddled with political connotations and i would suspect downright corruption. The Western European countries should pull out and abandon it from now on, and let it rot. Having said that, i did think the German entry was the best of all, next to the Hungarian blues entry.

I watch it every year (since 1998). I've grown into a self-proclaimed expert
((Not that this title is recognised by anyone))Our entry (Malta) this year was rubbish. I said that the moment I heard the Maltese presenters saying that she was the winner. Immediately I knew we wouldn't qualify for the final. ((And I took great, yet very unpatriotic, pride in finding she had ranked 25th out of 28th in the semifinal with just 15 points. What was funny about this was that the day after the semifinal, Malta was all up in arms about domination of the east. Yet, besides 2 points from the UK - our points came from the east)). Germany's entry was my favourite. Hands down. Followed by Latvia. I must also give a notable mention to the following countries (many of whom made me laugh more than anything else - but that's still good in my book (Think 'We are the Winners' last year, I've got that on my Mp3 )) : Ireland, Uk, Russia, Romania and Hungary - in no order. The winner wasn't all that great... |

The bald French midget that kept camping around the stage was top draw Eurovision crappiness.
The German guy was rather good, (but they do take the competition verrrry seriously indeed) I always love the irony of all these friendly peace and freedom songs being sung in a competition consisting of nations that for the most part really enjoy shooting at one another every now and again. As for the voting, see what the fall of communism actually unleashed???

so the original "Idol" show returns for yet another evening, tonight, as France, the UK, Germany and about a dozen or so made-up countries take part in the 2010 Eurovision Song Contest.
Kitsch televisual wallpaper at best, anachronistic dreck at worst, and a format that actually worked for maybe a quarter of an hour in 1974 continues to trundle along like a three wheeled wagon being dragged in different directions by 20 or so drivers makes it a perfect allegory for the forced political union of the old continent.

A very fair analysis Marty, on the bright side tho its a good excuse to enjoy the ladies of Europe who choose not to wear a great deal.

of course there is THAT to recommend it, and the early pitch invasion seemed well thought out.

I thought our entry was ok (by Eurovision standards) but as usual I bet we don't come near winning.

and seemingly a surfeit of tight leather trousers on the continent this year I notice, a direct result of there not being too much money for consumer luxuries in Greece perhaps?

Is it an austerity measure against us all to make Eurovision even more twee and anodyne than usual this year?
Added - I think either Romania or Armenia will be getting my vote, for a couple of reasons. Last edited by Nick_Bradley78; 05-29-2010 at 12:37 PM. |

It's been years since I have watched the Eurovision Song Contest- sorry I am missing the tight leather trousers. They are being worn by men I hope.
