I'm afraid you are way way off with your statement as to viewing figures - the 2010 final got a mere 5.4 million viewers on BBC1, Britains got Talent on ITV (which I also dislike you'll be pleased to know, but at least I don't pay for it) got 9.35 million.

So what? 5 million is poor for a supposed landmark piece of annual television, Eastenders gets more than that on a week night (which I happen to like).
In fairness to the BBC, last nights Apprentice was excellent, Sugar is a cliche and no one can convince me his intro's aren't scripted, but it was watchable, if car crash, TV - and I'd bet the house he got about double the Eurovision figures.

Added - in fact I'm sure they were on at the same time - both start mid evening, so there's some cross over even if Eurovision lasts an age longer. This year they are head to head to, followed by Piers Morgan life stories with Prescott. I may open a vein, or just watch something else, Im sure they'll be a re run of "What Katie did next" on somewhere.

But 2010 was a blip. Eurovision usually gets 35% of the audience, but it did dip in 2010. There can be many reasons for this, including the weather and the general election which was happening at that time. 35% of the total audience with the number of channels we have is remarkable. It does also happen with other programmes. Eurovision is just one of those programmes. We enjoy it, mainly because it's camp and fun. Some people can't get over that we don't win it very often. I don't care about that because an appreciation of songs and entertainment isn't something you can put a judgement on. If enough people watch and enjoy it, then that's fine

Sara Cox is doing good stuff backstage talking to all the acts and generally having fun in typical BBC Three style. I might post a Dana International video later. Stay tuned

Jedward are through to Saturday's final. Israel didn't make it, but I will post Israel's Dana International video. She previously won it in like 1998

Of course, nobody had heard of this band when they appeared on Eurovision in 1974.

YouTube - Broadcast Yourself.

The rule is that all performances must be live, and you can't have more than 9 performers on stage.

only if it torrentially rains and all the electrical equipment short circuits, I think I'd actually pay to watch that.

Almost an hour into the final, and I think Ireland's Jedward are going to win. BTW, many of my friends in the USA and Canada are taking the trouble to watch it online, and a splendid time is being had by all
