It's freakin cold

Saturday was really nasty. The wind was crazy with blowing snow. We didn't get a lot of snow, but it sure looked like it was a lot the way it was blowing. Sunday and today were better wind wise, but the temp was still really cold.

It has been a bit chilly here in Florida. In the 40's last night. Tomorrow it will get warmer.

We broke a record this morning here in Augusta at the weather station at the airport with a low of 11 degrees Farenheit. That beat the previous record by 4 degress. I don't think it ever got above freezing here yesterday.

Snow

Another 8-10 inches of snow today. That must put us a 3 to 3 1/2 feet already this winter.

Oh well they clear the roads and we blow out the driveway and just keep on going.

The Canadian government has declared a stretch of Highway 402 in Ontario, Canada - the main route from Port Huron, Michigan/Sarnia, Ontario to London and Toronto - a natural disaster area. About 40 miles closed due to whiteout and icy conditions, trapping some 300 people out on the road, some for as long as 30 hours. Snowmobiles and ATVs were used to gain access to the stranded.

It got down to 8 degrees last night with windchills at -15 to -22. Tonight's supposed to be in the same range but with less wind, only about -5 degree windchill.

The Blue Water Bridge at the US/Canada border crossing that feeds the 402 is one of the busiest for commercial traffic between the two nations. With that bridge closed commercial traffic has diverted to Detroit's Ambassador Bridge, another of the border's busiest crossings, resulting in miles and miles of trucks backed up on the Ambassador's feeder freeways, waiting to cross.

Good grief, stranded for 30 hours? I guess you carry emergency supplies in your car this time of year. Just think of all the personal emergencies that might have arisen. It's like what we have to do here in California with our earthquake emergency kits.

Tonight we're expecting a major winter storm here in Clinton, with ice totaling at least a quarter of an inch, followed by snow of up to three inches total.

After that, we expect a slight thaw, then some rain.

Wow, Judy, that is breathtaking and truly awesome. I love the music as well.
My cousin and his son recently moved to Manlius to live with my aunt and uncle. As far as I know, his son has never seen significant snow before. I hope he enjoys it - kids and snow are usually a very good mix.

We experienced a heat wave today----the temperatures reached 21 degrees. After all we have been through for the last two weeks with the ice and snow and temperatures 30 degrees or more below normal if we don't have a white Christmas I am going to be very upset. We have not had temperatures this low or this much snow in a long time.

Low 20's w sunshine, making the weather tolerable! Of course, I drove thru five hours of snow flurries -- Bradley to Dartmouth College & back -- and that wasn't a picnic!

Yes, ugly snow. It didn't lay on the ground, but did on my cold metal car, about an inch. I'll go sweep it off with a push broom before I go out a little later. I don't like dust and debris.

It got warmer with overcast, though. When the sun was out, that bare ugly cold arctic jet was blowing right in.
