James Bond (The Movies, The Girls, The Theme Songs)
What are yours favourites? Specifically, what is your favourite one for each actor. Obviously there ain't much choice when it comes to George Lazenby, so we'll stick to; Sean Connery, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, and Pierce Brosnan. Mine are: Connery - From Russia With love Moore - For Yours Eyes Only Dalton - The Living Daylights Brosnan - The World Is Not Enough Any other takers? Bond movies are a great topic of conversation, I think. So let's get chatting guys!

I would vote for Sean Connery in "From Russia with Love," and "Dr. No," followed by George Lazenby in "Her Majesty's Secret Service." I never was a Roger Moore fan as Bond. Lately, they got too gimmicky for my tastes. I liked Moore as 'The Saint" much better.

I've got to say, On Her Majesty's Secret Service is one of the most under-rated Bond films, and it is a great movie. I think if Connery had done this one, it would have easily been his best!

Bond, James Bond 007!!!
Sean Connery is James Bond and "GOLDFINGER" is his signature Movie...Roger Moore's signature Bond film (for me) is "For Your Eyes only" and the Guy who was passed over for one bond film but in my opinion was born for the ROLE is Piece Bronson and all his movies have been STELLA, but if I had to choose one it would be "Die Another Day"............( A little side note: My 87 year old Uncle Nick grew up with "Cubby Brocolli" the father of the James Bond films in Astoria NY and way back when , when Cubby and Uncle nick were 18 years old working in a factory in Astoria NY, Cubby said to my Uncle .." Nick I'm going to California , want to move there with me?"...and my Uncle who remained friends with Cubby for all of his life told me he said to Cubby " Who the heck wants to go to California ? Whats in California ? Are you Crazy ?.......Good thing Cubby didn't listen to my Uncle......

Roger Moore
Some people say your favourite Bond is the one you grew up with.
In my case that is true. Roger Moore is my favourite. I always loved his charm and humour he brought to the role. Apparently Ian Fleming wanted Roger Moore to play Bond and was unhappy with the casting of Sean Connery for Dr No. Roger Moore was unavailable at the time due to his commitment to "The Saint" TV series. My favourite James Bond movies: You Only Live Twice (Sean Connery) The Spy Who Loved Me (Roger Moore) Octopussy (Roger Moore) The Living Daylights (Timothy Dalton) On Her Majesty's Secret Service (George Lazenby) |

On Her Majesty's Secret Service is I agree a most under-rated Bond, although Connery made the role his own, for that time, I doubt that he could have carried off the characterisation of 007 in love and getting married, Lazenby is really sympathetic to the direction Bond took in this movie. It also has the great Louis Armstrong's We Have All The Time In The World, not only a great Bond tune, but one of the most haunting love songs ever.
As for the other Bonds.... Connery.........Goldfinger (wonderful girls, amazing car, fantastic one liners ..Honor Blackman "My Name is Pussy Galore" Connery "I Must be dreaming") Moore.............Live & Let Die (rocking theme tune ala McCartney, Voodoo, and the way he seduces Jane Seymour is so sleazy its classy) Brosnan.........Die Another Day (great cars, Halle Berry, fantastic chase scenes to rival the Roger Moore films) Dalton...........Licence to Kill (Tim Dalton brought a level of adult sophistication to the role, very edgy his two outings, this one espescially) Bond Theme Songs........well apart from our own Ms Sinatra's "You Only Live Twice", Matt's velvety tones, Satchmo and Wings my personal favourite is The Voice of the Valleys with "Thunderball" "Ejector Seat...You're Joking" "I never joke about my work 007" Marty

Would I be right in thinking that the signed photo of Roger Moore you have, was from circa 1983?

signed photo
Hi Alan,
I'm not sure what year the photo was taken. I thought it was circa 1980, about the time of For Your Eyes Only. A friend of mine who is heavily into collecting celebrity autographs got it for me two years ago. My friend has a skill for contacting the agents of the celebrity and requesting signed photo's. He has hundreds in his collection. It took him two or three attempts to get the Roger Moore photo though. |

Pierce Brosnan
I think Brosnan does a great job of playing 007, and is the only guy I could imagine in the role today. On the whole, his Bond movies have been great.
Tomorrow Never Dies was very good, if a little bit gung-ho, whereas I think The World Is Not Enough got the balance of action/spying and storyline just about right. Die Another Day however, while being fantastically entertaining, I think was a little bit over-the-top. No doubt much of this is due to the 40th anniversary of Bond - definitely Brosnan's Moonraker! This film also stands out in terms of special effects. The Bond movies have always gone for authenticity and done the stunts for real wherever possible, and only used special effects to enhance scenes. Die Another Day includes some wholly digital action set-pieces (and I'm thinking of the para-surfing scene here), which look synthetic and out-of-place in a Bond movie. The scene in question here caused much groaning from friends when I first saw the movie, and despite my defensive stance, even I had to admit that it looked fake. Any thoughts guys?
