A swing show

There was a swing show on TV tonight here in England. They interviewed Dean's daughter, spoke about Frank and Sammy and showed a bit of the Vegas "Rat pack" show etc'.

Andy williams sang a couple of songs and Paul Anka also. Jamie Cullen did a couple of numbers and Mick Hucknall sang one tune also. (I met Mick backstage with Nancy at the Royal Festival hall) Katie Melua sang a standard also. They interviewed Peggy Lee's daughter also.

I enjoyed the show. Nothing like the old days with the masters though. Mind you, it's good to see swing still going on.

Barry I am envious! Mick Hucknall is one of my heroes! To meet him and Nancy would have been unbelievable. I have seen Simply Red perform live a couple of times and they are just brilliant.

I saw the Saturday Swings show this evening and I thought it enjoyable, there should have been much more of Frank though. It was wonderful to see Nancy mentioned in the female legends spot.

I didn't get to talk to Mick, sadly. The room was packed out. Dennis waterman (Minder) was there also. Mick has a vinyard in Spain. I believe and spends a lot of time there.

Yep' it was great to see Nancy singing " My baby shot me down". I like her singing that song. She makes a great job of it.

Cheers

Saw the recording this morning, whilst Mr Anka`s version of Van Halen`s Jump swung the rest IMO was simply dreadful (Katie Melua & Lucie Silvas apart) Mick Hucknall`s `Everytime We Say Goodbye` summed up the show for me. Glad I watched the classy Bodies on 2 !

Dean Martin nicks Sinatra the headline in a red top newspaper this week caught my eye, turns out ex forum member & FS tribute artist Stephen Triffitt was stopped while jumping a red light by policeman Dean Martin, bad decision as he failed the breath test

Standards

Once someone creates a standard, it's almost impossible to match it. They all try, but how many succeed?. Mick Hucknell's "every time we say goodbye" for example. Ella version was a masterpiece. How can anyone top it? When they are singing it, you are hearing Ella in your mind's eye and you are comparing to what is being sung.

It's not an intelligent thing to do really. I guess it's a natural thing, but not on tv in front of millions! I agree, Katie was lovely. She is a big talent for the future. It's nice to see someone coming along.
ps/ I liked the Dean Martin story!

It's obvious Triffitt didn't believe us when we said Dean was really not a drinker - that it was all an act.

I enjoyed the show, made a refreshing change from some of the rubbish we see on Saturday evenings.

I thought Mick's version was quite good actually, it had a nice atmosphere.

And i think Katie Melua is fantastic.

Hi Adam
I agree that Mick's version was nice.
He has a nice voice.

Nancy
I guess it's a bright thing to do if you are a drinker....to work it into your act and keep 'em guessing
That way you make money and have fun at the same time.
" Little 'ol wine drinker Dene".
Dene was great.
No wonder you all took to him.

I quite enjoyed it actually, it is nice for a young fan like me to be able to watch a mainstream chanel and see the music that they love.

I can't stand Katie Melua though, I don't know why, her voice bores me so much & she's not much of a 'performer' to say the least. I think she is a gorgeous girl, but i really don't think much of her voice.

I also enjoyed the "rat pack live in las vegas" thing. Seeing as how these guys are the closest i am ever going to get- it's great. Plus, they caught the eye of my godmother who now wants to take me to see them (i wanted to go for months now).

so it's all good
