Rick, I'm terribly sorry to hear about your loss -- especially someone so young. About five years ago, I went through a 12-14 month period when I lost FOUR of my friends -- and not one of them made it to 60! That was when I made my decision to LIVE every day to the fullest! That's an easy adage to say, but life doesn't always work like that! Many of "our crowd" criticize me (I know they mean well) for "having so much on my plate," but I just can't, and, at this point, don't wish to slow down; and, based on my meds and condition, I assure you that this is NOT the manic phase of my bi-polarity! To paraphrase a insightful adage, "Every man dies, few men really live!"
My deep condolences, Rick!

Thank you, my friends. After a very long night of reflection (Robyn and I alternated between crying and laughing) we've come to realize the sudden loss of Steve is crushing equally because the thoughts of his wife and children going on without him as well as hitting us right between the eyes regarding our own mortality. Steve's father died the same way so Steve was fit and always watching his health which is why this is such a shock. He had his knees replaced 2 years ago and had endured the rehab well. We can only assume his heart had been tested and evaluated over the course of that period. He had 2 arteries 100% blocked. Steve was beloved by all who knew him. He was extremely handsome, even more so when he lost his hair.
Also, many of you might be familiar with his older brother, Bobby Speca, the Domino King. Bobby is a genius physicist who developed this domino theory. There is a commercial running now in the states where he was the consultant. It depicts falling mattresses in a domino effect. Bobby was on Carson when we were kids. This is tough to take.

I'm so sorry Rick. It is so much harder when it is sudden, and at such a young age. My condolences to you and his family.

Catching up from being gone on vacation for 9 days. Went in to work at 6:30 this morning, got home at 4:30 and have been going nonstop since then. Vacation is great but, coming home is exhausting!
Rick, I'm so sorry for your loss of your friend.

Houses are such a pain. At least if the temperatures don't fluctuate too greatly, components may last. The gutter is falling off the front of the house because years ago it was nailed on. Is that stupid or what? It should have been wood-screwed on, with a grip resistant to the weight of winter ice. So, natcherly, planned obsolescence has caused the wood to rot prematurely. It means I've got to pry it all off, screw on 40 feet worth of 2 x 4, then screw back in the gutter. I'll have to hire my buddy's punk son to hold up the other end while I screw it in. Either that, or defer it to my trusty contractor. For now, I've got a band-aid measure - an 8' tall 2"x 2" propping up the middle of the gutter to the right side of the door. It'll be fun to see how long it survives the next big storm.
