Wow! Great picture! Lucky you to have been able to see all that! Why they don't make that kind of show around my place? It look so great! Thank for sharing!

B-24 Liberator
Mike, I hope you won't mind a momentary thread hijack.
Since you showed a photo of a B-17 Flying Fortress above, I wanted to add one of a B-24 Liberator. I don't know if this particular aircraft was flying at the Houston show, but this photo is of the only restored B-24 still flying (out of nearly 20,000 built), and it usually tours alongside a sister B-17. (Small Frank Sinatra connection of sorts: the name of this particular plane shown below is "Witchcraft.") My interest stems from the fact that my late dad piloted one of these over Europe during the final year of WWII. I believe he had completed 24 missions when the war ended. (Pilots could retire from combat duty after 25 missions, although very few actually made it all the way to 25. Dad was very lucky. )

Absolutely not Bob, and especially not by you. Thanks for that info and the Sinatra connection! We were lucky to have guys like your Dad! (BTW, I don't recall it being at the show)

I believe the B-24 above is based at the museum in Galveston. They spent many years getting it in flying condition. I remember seeing it there during its rehab.
A good friend of mine bailed out of a stricken B-24 over Germany late in WWII. All but one of the crew survived. They were captured some time later while attempting to get to the Swiss border. The explosion and spin were extremely violent, and the bailout injured his back which bothers him, almost crippling, to this day. Heroes, every one.

One of my faves, the F-4U Corsair, Old Hose Nose! Engine was the R-2800, eighteen cylinders, over 1800 horsepower. Would have loved to just listen to that one!
