"Any game you play with him you’ll lose" 14. "It’s so easy looking at the game the morning after" 15. "Or is this a little game you're playing?" 16. "Someone's on first and the game is in doubt" 17. "Permanent floating crap game" 18. "I was a toy, only a game to you" 19. "Oh how we loved all those childish games" 20. "One hasn’t got time for the waiting game" 21. "Three strikes you're out, at the old ball game" 25. "Now I’m taking that game up, and the ace of hearts is high" 26. "And the people played their crazy game with a joy I’d never seen" 27. "We've got volleyball and ping-pong and a lot of dandy games" 28. "Nine games of scrabble" 29. "Games we used to play" 30. "Come by for a drink, we’re having a game" 31. "Love was such an easy game to play" 32. "You don’t mean what you’re sayin’, it’s just a game you’re playin’" 33. "We'd be so grand at the game" 34. What a great idea for a FS music game, Bob!!!
I noticed when going through the questions, just HOW much Sinatra has tied words to music - in many cases, I instantly started humming/singing-along the line... I wrote "no idea - pass" whenever the line didn't strike a melody with me, so that I would have had to check my files to look up the answer. Here are my entries: ***1. "Not for me the game where the jack is called black" The Future/Before The Music Ends. (Trilogy, Reprise) ***2. "Love's always been my game" Hmmh - nothing strikes my ear. (Except Marlene Dietrich's "Falling In Love Again", which FS didn't sing). Pass. ***3. "It's all a crazy game" The Gal That Got Away (Capitol) ***4. "The game is over" Title of a Reprise recording, his final before retirement (1970). ***5. "Every game requires the element of chance" Hidden Persuasion (Capitol) ***6. "The big Thanksgiving football game" Hmmh... doesn't ring a bell immediately with me... perhaps I'm Homesick That's All? ***7. "We played a game of give and take" ... but I stopped playing when my heart began to break / it's still so new / ---> I Can't Believe I'm Losing You a very special precious song for me personally [i]***8. "If you'd only play my game" I have no idea - pass. ***9. "It’s the wrong game with the wrong chips" It's All Right With Me (Capitol) ***10. "Love is more than just a game for two" L.O.V.E. (FS sang it on a Dean Martin show) ***11. "Doesn't like dice games with barons and earls" ...that's why The Lady Is A Tramp! ***12. "And so I play at the game" Luna Rossa (Columbia) ***13. "Any game you play with him you’ll lose" Don't mess with Mistaaaaa Booooooooze! ***14. "It’s so easy looking at the game the morning after" Monday Morning Quarterback (Reprise) (what a mmmmmmmmhh SO LOVELY GREAT song, one of my favs) ***15. "Or is this a little game you're playing?" Hmmh - no idea. Pass. ***16. "Someone's on first and the game is in doubt" O'Brien, To Ryan, To Goldberg! ***17. "Permanent floating crap game" (It's) The Oldest Established (from "Guys & Dolls") ***18. "I was a toy, only a game to you" Rain In My Heart (Reprise) ***19. "Oh how we loved all those childish games" No idea - pass. ***20. "One hasn’t got time for the waiting game" September Song (Columbia/Capitol/Reprise) ***21. "Every lovely vow was part of the game he was playing" Not sure, but - A Sinner Kissed An Angel? ***22. "You're at it again, you're running the game" Sue Me (from "Guys & Dolls") ***23. "The cards in the game never turn up the same" Take A Chance (Capitol) ***24. "Three strikes you're out, at the old ball game" Take Me Out To The Ball Game ***25. "Now I’m taking that game up, and the ace of hearts is high" Taking A Chance On Love (Capitol) ***26. "And the people played their crazy game with a joy I’d never seen" There Used To Be A Ballpark (Reprise) ***27. "We've got volleyball and ping-pong and a lot of dandy games" There's Nothing But A DAme (South pacific) ***28. "Nine games of scrabble" TWelve Days Of Christmas (Reprise) ***29. "Games we used to play" The Things We Did Last Summer (Columbia) ***30. "Come by for a drink, we’re having a game" When Da Woild Was Young ***31. "Love was such an easy game to play" I believe in: Yesterday ***32. "You don’t mean what you’re sayin’, it’s just a game you’re playin’" Hmmh - no idea. Pass. ***33. "We'd be so grand at the game" So carefree together: You'd Be So Easy To Love ***34. "Your every action shows that love is just a game to you" Not sure - a guess: "Stepping On My Toes" (a Radio song)? Bernhard. |

Here's To The Winner
Well, nobody is going to out-perform Bernhard in this quiz.
By my count, Bernhard got 29 correct (including one wrong pass and 3 guesses) and just one wrong, while passing on four, out of 34. A few notes on the wrong pass and guesses:2. I believe FS DID sing Marlene Dietrich's "Falling In Love Again," on a Songs By Sinatra radio show in 1946, accompanied by Skitch Henderson on piano. So, this one is correct in spite of Bernhard's pass. 6. "Homesick, That's All" is correct. 21. "A Sinner Kissed An Angel" is correct. 34. "You're Stepping On My Toes" is correct. That leaves just the following five for honorable mention honors. (In all fairness to Bernhard, these are all very obscure and from radio—except #29, which he got wrong). Does anybody know which songs these are from? 8. "If you'd only play my game" 15. "Or is this a little game you're playing?" 19. "Oh how we loved all those childish games" 29. "Games we used to play" 32. "You don’t mean what you’re sayin’, it’s just a game you’re playin’" |

Correctimundo, Martin.
I inadvertantly included two snippets from the same song; both #29 and #30 are from the lovely "When The World Was Young" aka "Ah, The Apple Trees" aka "Le Chevalier de Paris (Les Pommiers Doux)". |

We can do more, George. Someone throw out a word (like "game"), and I'll post a list of Sinatra lyrics containing that word. The word would have to be such that the set of songs is reasonably compact. (But let's wait for the final four answers to this quiz.)

Yes, Mark, you got it.
Frank sang "You Call Everybody Darling" on Your Hit Parade on radio in 1948. Three left to solve: #8, #15, and #19. |

No. 8 : I don't know enough about you.
No. 15 : My Heart Tells Me No. 19 : Can't figure it out. I'm sure I heard it...but can't remember it... |

Congratulations, Darryl, on two of the three!
That just leaves: 19. "Oh how we loved all those childish games" |
