Re. Decision to shoot on 35 mm
And for whatever reason he chose to have only a few musicians accompanying him, I'm glad he did. As I said before, the original filming with these few musicians allows us to 'really hear' his voice. There are tons of recordings of Frank backed by a full orchestra, but I haven't heard many with just him singing along with a few musicians. That's what "made" it for me.

In case nobody answered before, these films have been around for decades in kinescope form, and that's how a lot of us have seen them.
Nancy -- wouldn't releasing the restored material offset the costs of the restoration? It seems like a no-brainer to me. PJ |

Without Orchestra
If anybody really listened to the snippets they should have descerned that the original small group (piano, drums-probably played with brushes and other instruments?) was at an extremely low level. It is absolutely a no-brainer that the overdubbing of an orchestra was always meant to be done. I worked in the recording business and many artists in the early 50s would record with a minimal group and then a full orchestra would be brought in to overdub or "sweeten" the mix. As a matter of fact, it's still done today. In listening to the brief excerpts it seemed that at least one of the songs, "I've Got You Under My Skin", had the orchestra slightly out of sync.

My only wish
FAS performed a swinging version of "My Heart Stood Still" on the "Here's to the Ladies" ABC show I believe in 1958. It was a classic Nelson Riddle extravaganza. Having watched the 60 minutes gig the other night it occurred to me that he might have recorded it in 35mm. I have never been able to find this anywhere and would give my eye teeth to have it in DVD.
The song is in such contrast to his recorded versions. The opening musical notes sound identical to the Sinatra/Elvis duet. da dat da da, de da dat datta, da dat da da, de da dat datta, Love me Tender, Love me Sweet, Never let me go....... da dat da da, de da dat datta, da dat da da, de da dat datta I took one look at you, that's all I meant to do and then my heart stood still, de dat datta, de da dat datta, my feet could step and walk, my lips could move and talk........ I cannot get it out of my head........not that I really want to. Nancy, I'm begging you. My life will not be complete until I possess that footage. I'm on bended knee.

I live in Pittsburgh which is close ti indiana PA where jimmy stewart grew up >every year at christmas they do the whole town up like its a wonderful life...the sign get changed to say "welcome to bedford falls" its magical...free horse drawn sleighrides ect...its incredible. There is a neat place to eat there and the menu has all jimmy stewart items on it...they have a Harvey Burger ect. They also hjave the Jimmy Stewart museum that has a mini theatre in it (looks like a theatre in the 40's...and it plays his movies. Its awesome to see harvey on the big screen (being 31 i missed that chance)

Wow, this is in PA?
I will have to check that out sometime! I would love to see some of his films on the big screen... being 22, I have also missed them. Born in the wrong era ![]() To keep this on topic (hate to get in trouble my first day here ) I really do hope they decide to bring the Radio City Music Hall Show on the road... I would love to see it here in Atlanta (or in a nearby state). I would absolutley love to see Mr. Sinatra onstage... or as close to it as I can get.I believe they do something similar with Elvis (travelling concerts). |

From what I have read, the Elvis tour was fairly successful. I would have loved to see that too, I always seem to be a bit late for everything
![]() Unfortunatly, my finances and schedule will not permit me to travel to NYC for the show. I sincerly hope they will bring it to Atlanta... or even Nashville, where I might have a chance at catching it. Correction, if it comes within driving distance of the Southeastern USA, I WILL BE THERE. That HE'S BACK poster gives me chills... heck, that image would make a FABULOUS CD or DVD cover
