Great photo taken by Frank Sinatra

Photographer Chase Jarvis has a great blog post about famous people shot by famous photographers and includes this image taken by Frank of Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier

That is a great photo. Of course, more of Frank's photos from that boxing match, including one on the front cover, are in the March 19, 1971 edition of Life Magazine.

Life magazine photo of FS by Neil Leifer

"[...] Six years ago Staff Writer Tommy Thompson and Photographer John Dominis were doing a story on Frank Sinatra. Sinatra was fascinated by Dominis' equipment and admitted he had been interested in taking pictures for 20 years. Shortly before the fight Tommy learned that Sinatra had wangled himself a ringside seat and was going to take pictures with a battery of cameras. Tommy went to work wangling Sinatra into letting us have a look at his film. We didn't expect to get anything the professional photographers didn't have, but it might be worth inspecting. Indeed. Sinatra wound up getting the cover, a memorable full-spread picture (yes, he held his camera at that angle on purpose) and two other shots in our story. We are offering him a job."

Also: Related to photography, see the cover of [Capitol Records Presents] Sinatra's Greatest, Volume 2 (in the discography).

Strangely enough, I was looking at my copy of the programme for that bout which was shown on closed circuit TV in cinemas across the UK.
I watched it at the Odeon, Gants Hill, Ilford until the early hours of the morning and I remember coming out into the fresh air feeling like I had been in the ring.

Yes, it's a well balanced picture with crystal clarity.
I just can't get excited about two guys beating each other up, even if they have no beauty to lose.

There is a VHS titled Celebrity Train Layouts Part 1 Frank Sinatra. I don't know if it's on DVD or not, but it's worth checking if you're interested. It's not a very good production.

If Amazon doesn't have it, check www.tmbooks-video.com... not a very user-friendly website, but a little mining might turn up this nugget.

Superb photos.

I'd like to see a book compiled of all Frank Sinatra's photos!

I came across this cool photo taken by John Dominis (also mentioned in this thread) of Frank watching his son perform on TV!

Sorry, Mike, but we were sued by Dominis once so we can't post his pictures.

OK, here's one I thought I knew: what camera brand and model was he given/issued/lent, what lens(es), and film brand, speed, type?

Just wondering, it's not really that important......
