How much Sinatra do I need?

Hi all,
Please help.

I was hoping some of you may be able to draw up some kind off check-list for me of all Frank Sinatra's main "official" albums that are available on CD.
I've done searches on amazon, but hundreds of titles appear.
Besides the titles I already have most of the others look like bargain basement jobs on budget labels and cheap compilations, etc. I'm not interested in those, just his main studio albums and official Live albums.

I have collected what I have for about a year now.
Up to now I have been using Nancy's book for help but there is mention of "cross over" albums after Frank left Capital. Nancy skips those for some reason.

I just need some idea of how many more Frank Sinatra albums I need to complete my collection. I bet there are still many more to go.

I'm not interested in the film soundtrack albums, so don't include those in the list.

I've made it easier for you by including a list of the albums I have so far. I think I have nearly all the Capital and Reprise stuff that's availabale on CD.

From what I see you have a pretty extensive Sinatra collection.
Here are some CD's that I would add:

I REMEMBER TOMMY
SINATRA SINGS GREAT SONGS FROM GREAT BRITAIN
ALL ALONE
IT MIGHT AS WELL BE SWING
A MAN AND HIS MUSIC
SINATRA'S SWINGING SESSION
THE COMPLETE CAPITOL SINGLES COLLECTION
THE VOICE OF FRANK SINATRA
SONGS BY SINATRA, VOLUME ONE
FRANKLY SENTIMENTAL
SING AND DANCE WITH FRANK SINATRA

These are a few that I have that I thoroughly enjoy. I can't help
but believe you'll feel the same way. Happy listening!

You said you didn't want any of the "live" recordings, but the "Sinatra In Hollywood" is a treasure-trove of history of our Mr. S.'s movie life. And the Complete Capitol Singles Collection should be obtained by any collector as Willie suggested.

Now this MHO, as I am no Sinatra authority by any stretch of the imagination, but I have been collecting for thirty years, but I have all you have listed, plus many others and still strive to find other hidden gems. Am beginning to collect the vinyls that are not available on CD, such as "Softly As I Leave You," and "Tell Her You Love Her." These are such fun to find, and I don't even have anything on whcih to play them. I just like to look at them and remember when!

Good luck. I know Martin or Bernard or several others will be able to be of more assistance.

Besdies what Willie and Lois mentioned, I'd also get something sort of compilation from Columbia. Maybe consider the 4CD set, Lea?

Also, don't forget A Jolly Christmas from Frank Sinatra - the best Christmas album ever!

Thanks for your suggestions everybody.

Does the Complete Capitol Singles Collection contain much unreleased material or would I have most of it already on the CDs I have in my collection so far?

Hey Lois, wouldn't it be neat if Reprise and Capitol put out a two-for-one CD of Tell Her You Love Her and Sinatra '65? The labels have got together before, this would be great. They could do it like Swing Easy and Songs For Young Lovers, where both covers are printed on the insert and two little ones on the back of the tray card.

That's Life

Hi Dustin,

I got mine last year from HMV.UK

You can still get it from amazon.com as an import.

Columbia Years

Hi,

I just updated my list. I think there are about ten more of the Capitol/Reprise albums that are available on CD that I need to get.
I think I will order "Songs From Great Britain" and "Tone Poems" next.

But what about the Columbia albums?
How many of the LPs are available individually to buy on CD?
Or is a boxset the best way to go?

Hi ,
I see this is an older thread, but I couldn't resist putting in my 2 cents. For Columbia , just buy the Blue Box. It is a great set, my only problem with it is with everything on cd in chronological order Christmas songs pop up at jarring moments. I solved that problem on my ipod by moving all the Holiday songs to a new playlist, very nice to have them all together, without changing the mood when playing the other discs. Wish it had been done that way on the release.

As for my collection I have 3 cd's I am looking for The World We Knew, Softly As I Leave You, and now thanks to me finding out about it in this forum (Thanks Bob, something else for me to try to find...LOL) Freedom To Swing - A Las Vegas Tribute to Frank Sinatra.

Indispensable: "The Voice of Frank Sinatra" with the blue cover and a smiling Frank wearing a bow tie. I post the description because there's another CD with the same title and agreen background that is a very different album.

"The Voice of Frank Sinatra" now has 18 tracks, wonderful booklet and is Frank's first concept album.

The first 2 you'll have no problem, they'll be reissued by Universal in the coming weeks or months so definitely don't spend a fortune on ebay or Amazon for the old issue.
The last one you'll have trouble finding, just keep watching ebay I guess.
