I didn't even realize it until I counted but I'm up over 50 CDs with having the Reprise and Concepts box sets, as well as almost all of the live albums. I do not own any of the Harry James-Columbia period (yet). Amazing how much this man did.

Wow! Some people have impressive collections. At the moment i have only 4 CDs, 1 book and 1 LP *sigh*. I want to start a collection of LPs, but it's not easy, as we don't have a record store in town, and they're pretty expensive on eBay, the one LP i mentioned is from a resale shop in Michigan, where i went when i was on vacation earlier in the summer. And i want to get all of his legally available CDs, but i have to buy those off eBay, as i have a very limited budget, but they're still pretty expensive off eBay. So here I am a huge FS fan, with a beginner's collection, somehow that doesn't seem fair.

I'm with you, Arizona. I was a fan of Frank Sinatra, the movie star, but never much into his music. But bit by bit, piece by piece, my collection grows, as does my appreciation for him.

It was the opposite for me, Ace. I was a huge fan of Frank's music and never thought much about his movies but slowly I became a fan of them too.

Same here. Used CD stores are a great places to start your collection.

Ace,

Isn't it great that so many people have so many differing views as far as Mr. S is concerned. I was never much on his acting (and still am not save for a few perfomances). But, his music got to me IMMEDIATELY once I first heard him sing.

Kinda like Grace Kelly's introduction of Mr. S :

"How many of us have a favorite Frank Sinatra song? And how many of them are different?"

Answer next to impossible

With my collection, I keep track only of what I don't have. The real problem is duplications. In most cases I have at least 3 different copies of the albums. A player LP, a backup in case of accidents, and the CD.

BTW, I'm not proud of this vast collection. I love the music, but storage is a nightmare. Add to this all this box sets, 45s 45EPs 78s cassette tapes and our home has become more of a library than a living space.

And, I would be ashamed to photograph our master bedroom - holding all this plus another 1500 - 2000 jazz, classical and other LPs. Then there are 1200 Video tapes and just over 1000 DVDs.

Someday soon, when I shed this mortal coil, it will take a Michael Feinstein to catalogue all this. Or, God forbid, a Goodwill truck.

I have quite a lot, not everything by any means and I am not what anyone might call an avid collector these days. I used to buy most Sinatra product issued through the years until I built up what I think is a solid set of mostly all the issued/released recordings from 1939 - 1993.

These days I certainly would not buy every compilation issue, even if they had one rare track, although it is fair to say that I had a lot of rare tracks in the past, many of which have now been properly released, thank God.

I must say that I would most likely want to purchase a proper new release of previously unreleased studio or other recordings/videos of concerts of good sound quality.

Nick, your piece says it all. While I am not in your league I might be considered a Nick neophyte. The Sinatra section is my reason to be. It runs in the hundreds and I am not aware of an album I am missing. There are some things in the form of say an EP or a 45 I might want to acquire though at this point I am not certain why. I think I have all the original 10" LPs as well as the 78 album sets. I guess I can throw in the Mobile Hi Fidelity set of Capitol albums too. And of course multiple copies of most albums.

Also, I am not a collector but rather an accumulator. I wish I could tear myself from the records but just don't know that I am up to it. Aside from the Sinatra stuff my stash is modest, maybe 1000-1200 albums. I am afraid to count them. They also take up too much space in my bedroom. I dream of finishing off the attic and moving the records up there. And I rarely listen to them any more. I am impressed by the posters of this forum like Martin who are still so in touch with the albums.

God bless my wife who lives with this "collection". She has never once asked me about it though I know she doesn't understand.

I can remember the circumstances around a particular album found decades ago. I have dreams from time to time of going to a record store and finding a cache of Sinatra albums I had never seen before. And it is only Sinatra albums that dreams are made of. Nobody else.

I think I read somewhere in this forum that Bob had divorced himself from his album collection at some point. I always wanted to ask him and the other readers of this forum how they did it. Still, I can't imagine that collectors of music today and tomorrow will have as much fun acquiring their treasures as I did over my life time. From record stores in Tokyo to Crete to flea markets on Canal St. in NYC, it's been one great big blast.

And also, if you have any, how many LPs do you own?

It would be cool if we could see how everyone stores thier collection, so feel free to add a picture...

I have so much Sinatra in my home, some people think its a museum of Frank Sinatra.
Its funny, but i dont think of it that way as Frank is a part of my everyday life. I listen to the music all day throughout work when I get home, etc.
The pictures, autographs, books, etc make the home very comfortable as its what I have a deep passion for
There will never ever be another Frank Sinatra
The guy was and will always be my favorite singer and actor and really he is my hero
