Still I Can Dream Can't I?
Does anyone know if Sinatra ever recorded this song and if yes when and with whom? Karen Carpenter did a lovely version of this 40s tune with Billy May back in the late 70s. Also, I enjoy the dreamy tempo 40s style songs on TRILOGY. Yes, Frank sounds older but the recordings are better and in STEREO. Perhaps, another tribute album to Dorsey with the Pipers or High Los would have been cool. Thanks for any info. Steve One last question.....how do u add a picture to your profile? Thanks! |

Can't find any "record" of this song being covered by FS.
To add a picture go to user cp and then you can download from your own pc..but I can't recall the details I just played around to find a picture the correct size. Dave |

I Can Dream, Can't I?

No Sinatra didn't do a recording of "I Can Dream, Can't I", and as far as documentation goes, he never sang it anywhere, either. The song was featured twice on Sinatra's NBC radio programme "Light Up Time" in the first week of November 1949, but on each occasion, his female guest stars sang the song solo(Lucille Norman on the first, and Eileen Wilson on the second occasion). It is a nice song indeed, and Frank would have sounded nice on this one I think. Well, at least we can dream, can't we. ![]() Bernhard. |

Danke Bernhard!
Yeah it would have sounded nice perhaps with Billy May and that vocal group he used on Trilogy. Were those just studio singers?
thanks! |

Yes they were assembled just for the occasion I think (the names are all documented, in case you are looking for someone in particular). It is noteworthy that a quite well-known Jazz singer of her own, Marlene Verplanck, was among them.

I think I used to have that song a long time ago. It was recorded by the great Jerry Vale. I hadn't thought about it until this thread. That is a very pretty song. I'm sure Frank Sinatra would have done a wonderful job singing it.
