I had always hoped that Mr. S. would get around to recording "By Myself". ("I'll go my way by myself....")..a Schwartz-Dietz song, I believe that would have fit into several of the ballad albums.

COUNTRY SONGS

Hi Mickey Light:
To the best of my knowledge the CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD never recored any country songs. He didn't like the arrangments.

Surely we're forgetting Burt Bacharach guys? He's a genius song writer. I'd like to have heard Frank singing Alfie and Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head.
It would've been great if he sung some Bernstien too like some of you said.
"Mariaaa, I've just met a girl named Mariaaaa, and suddenly I've found, how wonderful a sound, can beeeee. Mariaaa....."
He would've really gone to town on that one. West Side Story is my all time favourite musical.
You've really upset me now! I didn't know that Frank had never done "Beyond The Sea", I was looking forward to hearing it. Damn!!

In The Living Years.

A song with a terrific message, something I think Frank could really get home.

Hello,

I wished :

Let true love begin (Nat King Cole song)

L'hymne à l'amour (Edith Piaf, I don't know the title of the song in English but I know it by Andy Williams)

I just called to say I love you (Stevie Wonder)

Honey (Bobby Goldboro)

Here are some examples but there are so much....

Songs You Wish Sinatra had Recorded

RICK IN SYDNEY: Try the TRILOGY album "THE PRESENT"...
Frank recorded "FOR THE GOOD TIMES" and "LOVE ME TENDER".....I haven't been to country since HANK WILLIAMS SR. died .. But I think those two songs are in the country category....Gotta go, it's warm enough to play golf here in the Midwest......"FOR THE GOOD TIMES" done by FRANK SINATRA is especially haunting and beauiful.......

OOOPS! I guess I got the names mixed-up....My answer about country stuff was supposed to be for MICKEY LIGHT?????? I'm sorry ....I've been lost ever since I've been on MEDICARE....Anyway, enjoy "THE TRILOGY" album.....there's nothing like it.......

By the way, NAT KING COLE recorded a couple songs called: "MAGNIFICIENT OBSESSION" and "MY HEART TELLS ME(SHOULD I BELIEVE MY HEART?)" and I got them on an album called "THE VERY THOUGHT OF YOU" ......I think Frank could've done a beautiful job with those haunting songs, as well......gotta go!!!!

CYCLES

Released by Reprise in 1968, CYCLES was Frank Sinatra's sole venture into country-style music. Country crossover, you might call it. I believe this record
was produced by Lee Hazlewood -- is that right, Nancy? (And did he do the arrangements as well?)

Available from Amazon.com as an import, the tracks include:

1. Rain in My Heart
2. From Both Sides Now
3. Little Green Apples
4. Pretty Colors
5. Cycles
6. Wandering
7. By the Time I Get to Phoenix
8. Moody River
9. My Way of Life
10. Gentle on My Mind

Cycles, I believe, was produced by Don Costa, but my memory is faulty
on some of these facts and I don't have the album handy.

Re Saddle Shoes

Let's not panic. She's been known to bribe her keepers before. This is probably an isolated incident.
GHOST RIDERS IN THE SKY, indeed! And I thought that new medication was working.

Oy Vey!

OUT OF THE ASYLUM!!!

"One thing leads to another,

too late to run for cover,

She's much too close for comfort now."

YIKES!

Um. Bobbysoxer? Maybe you should explain about Saddle Shoes to the uninitiated. You know, evil twins and all that...

I really think she deserves her own thread, though. It would make the "Spelling Quiz" look tame.

Can Not Carl be far behind?

On the money, Nancy!

Your memory is fault-free. (Mine, on the other hand, seems to be developing
a few holes.)

Don Costa did arrange CYCLES and probably produced it as well. I remember reading, somewhere, that Lee Hazlewood helped pick the songs.

Cycles

I remember reading somewhere that Nancy heard the original arrangement for the song "Cycles" and suggested it be given a much more bare bones chart, and that's what they did.'
It certainly came out well.
Nancy, do you have anything to add to that?

Ghost Riders

Frank DID sing "Ghost Riders." He sang it on the radio several times. I don't know if it was Hit Parade or one of his other 40's radio programs, but he did sing it.

In additon, it's a very good song.

Frank also recorded "Home on the Range" with Axel Stordahl. While that song does not fit the Sinatra image, Frank sings it magnificently and the recording is a masterpiece. As far as I know, it is available only on the 12-CD Columbia Box Set.

A RARE DISPLAY OF GOOD TASTE

Let's hear it for Saddle Shoes! Mind you, I've never heard "Ghost Riders in the Sky," but if Edwin says it's a good song, then I believe him.

Maybe a bit of her sister is rubbing off, finally -- or else that new medication really did work.

FYI: "Home on the Range" is also available on Disc 2 of the 4-CD "Best of the Columbia Years" box set. I agree that Sinatra sang it beautifully -- classic Sinatra/Stordahl -- although the song itself was associated with Crosby and his style (e.g., "Don't Fence Me In," "I'm an Old Cowhand from the Rio Grande," etc.).

Crosby had greater versatility, in my opinion, but Sinatra brought unparalleled depth to everything he sang...including this official song of the State of Kansas (written there in a small cabin by Brewster Higley, M.D., in 1872, and later set to music).
