"Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas"

The movie was The Victors from 1963, Kay.

You can hear that version in the Frank Sinatra In Hollywood box set. It's also mentioned in the following posts:

HAVE YOURSELF A MERRY LITTLE CHRISTMAS 1963 (Promotional Issues and Samplers)
SINATRA MUSIC IN "THE VICTORS" (Film Songs)

I believe I have an album cover image from The Victors soundtrack LP, courtesy of Nick in Toronto. I'll try to post that over in one of the Frank's Recordings threads.

[Added] I've included a post for the soundtrack album here: Original Soundtrack Recording: The Victors.

Have Yourself....is great. But I also love Crosby's "Do You Hear What I Hear" and Como's "Ave Maria" with the Viennese Boys Choir. Listening to that song, I can feel God around me...almost.

The Victors

Despite Bob's credit to me for providing the cover image, I firmly believe that all FS fans should be warned that this version of "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas" is performed over the execution of a deserter on Christmas Day (in the film) and is consequently a very negative - anti-war - statement; that may cloud your perception of this song forever,-should you see it in the film. It was a controversial, and couragious choice for FS at the time - but cannot be recommended as a Christmas Song in the context in which it is presented.
Actually, the song - dubbed over the totally un-Christmas-like viewing; en-masse of the US troops witnessing punishment, is one of the more upsetting sequences in the movie, and if viewed, should probably be seen as far away from Christmas as possible.

BTW, I am unaware of no re-release of this film since its original play back in 1963. It was a good anti-war fillm, to be sure, but certainly nothing to invoke the "Christmas Spirit" in any viewer.

Beware of the film - not the vocal!

All The Sinatras

I happen to like these three on the Sinatra Family Christmas album, first my most favorite is Nancy doing "It's such a Lonely time of Year", followed by Frank Jr. doing "Some Children See Him", and then to top it off Frank doing "The Christmas Waltz". Also Tina has a really lovely singing voice too so I also like her and Nancy doing "O Bambino"

I'm not a big fan of Christmas music, but the "Silent Night" that Frank did in 1991 means more to me than any Christmas song I have ever heard. It is just so personal and touching.

Agreed along with a handful of other performances: "An Old Fashioned Christmas", "What Ever Happened to Christmas" and "Silent Night (2004)".

David,

I also like "An Old Fashioned Chirstmas." I was very pleased that it got included in The Sinatra Collection.

Christmas wouldn't be Christmas with out hearing Frank sing, "I Came Upon a Midnight Clear."
