Young Blue Eyes-Birth Of A Crooner due April 6 from RCA/BMG

RCA/Bluebird plans 4/6 for a CD of entirely unreleased FS material from his tenure with Tommy Dorsey. It is reported that it will be supported by a "strong TV ad campaign" in the March issue of ICE.

Ron,

Do you know if these recordings are from radio broadcasts or if they're studio recordings? Maybe a mix of both?

PJ: I believe it is all broadcast versions. It is in essence the 3rd "Buddha" but this time with more "live" versions of the big hits instead of more obscure titles. Best, Ron.

New CD...

Sounds great, can't wait. There must be a trunk load of live broadcasts available, Dorsey's band with Sinatra did hundreds of one- nighters. Thanks for the info..... Joe...

Thanks for posting the tracklist, Ron. Sounds indeed like this will be the "third Buddha" record. Also, they seem to have gone to some other shows beyond "Fame and Fortune" this time, e.g. the 1940 Carnival di Broadway series. Tops!

Ron, I can't wait. After seeing the song list, it sounds like a real winner, just like the previous two. And the sound was great on them also.

Hi All,

From what I understand, a good deal of the material derives from the "Fame and Fortune" broadcasts. Most of the remaining FD-TD holdings at RCA are radio transcriptions; except for the string of live perfs recorded at the end of Sinatra's tenure with Dorsey (around the time of the famous Sinatra "farewell" and "The Song is You") there is not much in terms of one-nighters. Ron is correct: this is an extension of the 5-CD box set and the Buddah CDs, and will be a welcome addition.

****will be a welcome addition.****

Oh yes indeed. This is very exciting news.

I'm especially glad to see the Sinatra-Dorsey approach on "Stardust" included, and some more of those "Sentimental Medleys", which add to the 'art form' of medley that Sinatra used right down into the 80s.

Hi,

Buddah was a subsidiary of RCA/BMG; they used it as a label for a bunch of jazz and big-band releases (mostly live performances or radio airchecks). Two Frank Sinatra-Tommy Dorsey CDs came out on Buddah: both featured rare radio material that was previously unreleased.

Bernhard: I agree with you 110% about the medleys, and encouraged the producers of the new CD to use the entire medleys, and not excerpted protions. To extract the Sinatra-only portion of a medley is ridiculous, for it takes the entire song out of context (since the songs in a medley must be arranged and orchestrated to integrate with one another.) It killed me to hear "excerpts" when the other songs originally included in the medleys were excellent, and should have been left intact. Thankfully, the producers of the new CD agree and are presenting them accurately.

It should be an excellent CD...

EAGERLY ANTICIPATED

<<It should be an excellent CD...>>

After reading through these posts, I don't think any qualifier is necessary. I would venture to say it WILL BE an excellent CD. Proof positive that even the most dedicated Frank Sinatra fans have much to discover. How little we know....

Kama Sutra-Buddah-RCA-BMG

Buddah Records is currently a subsidiary label of RCA Records which is owned by BMG Distribution. Buddah actually started as a rock label in the 60's along with its subsidiary Kama Sutra. It was home to such artists as The Lovin' Spoonful, The Fifth Dimension, Brewer & Shipley. Even with numerous hits, the label, like so many indy labels, did not survive. BMG bought the rights to the catalog and name and has been re-releasing old albums at a budget price under the Buddha label since 1999. They have also issued a few archive releases like the 2 FS/TD disc, and a Louis Prima swinger.

The new CD "Young Blue Eyes", with a tentative release date of Apr. 6, is not on Buddha. It is on RCA. Which means that it will not be priced at as a budget cd $9.98 or $11.98 list price. It will be issued as an $18.98 list cd. Those prices are BMG suggested retail prices. You will find this item at various prices, but certainly not for the price of a Buddha/BMG release. The catalog # is RCA 60283, UPC # 828766028324.

Sorry, a lttle long-winded for me.

Peace, Dean

Buddha is the correct spelling for the BMG label not Buddah. (rhymes with Buttah!)

I have revised the track listing as I have the CD.

King Porter Stomp was listed on various websites in error.
