I could not agree more, Stanley. Love this flick and all of its splendor. I also love "The Philadelphia Story" but for different reasons.

I completely agree, Stanley. I think I've watched it at least 20 times and it never gets old. Perfect cast, perfect score, perfect screenplay. It's my favorite FS musical film!

Rick -- I saw Dina Merrill in "Philadelphia Story" a hundred years ago, and she was terrific! If SHE couldn't play a young, beautiful, spoiled society heiress, no one could! Her mother, Marjorie Meriweather Post, was married, at one time, to MR. POST of POST TOASTIES reknown!

On FILM 4 today at 16.45 PM.

Although I've seen this film many times, I may just tune in for the terrifically performed song with Frank and Bing " Well Did You Evah" I love it!

Yes! Bouncing back and forth between the movie and the L.A. Marathon coverage. Frank and Bing and Grace are equal to the task set by James Stewart and Cary Grant and Katharine Hepburn in The Philadelphia Story but some of the supporting players are not quite there. Samantha's father comes across as a stuffed shirt and nobody could possibly compare to Virginia Weidler as Dinah.

Nice to see Virginia Weidler remembered, Nancy! She was fun! Ms. Weidler, Jane Withers, Shirley, Margaret O'Brien, Dean Stockwell... those Hollywood kids were more than "all right!" They were wonderful!

Watched "High Society" and "Elmer Gantry" on Sunday..I have seen High Society a dozen or more times and it is still one of the greatest musicals of all times...What a cast of greats in High Society=Frank, Bing, Grace, Louis Armstrong, and Celeste Holm..

I watched it yesterday for the first time. A great movie filled with pure class and style. Frank and Grace were such a nice couple. I think Bing was a little bit too old for her.... great soundtrack!

Most of Grace Kelly's leading men were more than 20 years older than she - James Stewart, Cary Grant, Clark Gable, etc.

I love High Society as well. A movie that features my two favorite singers, one of my favorite actresses, and music by my favorite songwriter. Couldn't get any better

Has there ever been a musical containing more wonderful "DUETS" than "High Society?" I think not (IMO)! Just consider -- "Well Did You Evah?," "True Love," "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?," "Little One," "Now You Has Jazz."

A Superb Musical In Every Way!

sorry, Greg, I forgot to post the link. Celeste Holm's family announced that the oscar winning actress and Frank's co-star died earlier today.

If I started my Celeste Holm stories now, we'd be here until tomorrow! Except for the last dozen or so years of her life, which were of a decidedly eccentric bent, Ms. Holm was a pen pal of more than 50 years! Her sister, Mrs. Berdan, was a second grade teacher in PS 88, which I attended, and which was a neat starting point for our relationship!

I invited her to speak to the drama class at Paramus High School, and she wowed everyone by singing "I Cain't Say No!," and telling hilarious Bette Davis-Thelma Ritter stories (from their "All About Eve" shooting)! And when the other students and teachers heard how great she was, they asked me to ask her to return to PHS and do her one-woman-show for the entire school! Before I could get all of the words out of month, she said, "When do you want me?"

After her two Frank films, she was very disappointed that she didn't get another role in one of his films. She came close. The scenarist for "Tony Rome" wrote a part for her, but Ms. Holm said that the character was extraneous, and "wouldn't really work!" She loved working on Broadway more than anything, but said the movie money was delicious!

The very independent, intelligent, and talented Ms. Holm was a treasure! I'll miss her. Rest In Peace, Ado Annie!
