Have viewed this film numerous times too many to mention, but I absolutely dispise the ending!

Is that all there is? Keep waiting for him to fall into Jeanne's arms or something? But this reviewing in the store windows is great, but that's where it ends.

I love the film, love Mr. S. in it, but think the ending could have been a little happier!

That's me, always an optimist!

Eddie Albert, Sinatra's co-star from this movie, has passed away on May 26, 2005.

Yes, Bernard, sad news indeed. What a fantastic part Eddie Albert played as Joe's piano player and close friend Austin Mack.

What a talented gentleman. Rest in peace, dear gentle man.

Much ado has been made about Mr.Sinatra's acting performances in From Here To Eternity and Man With the Golden Arm (and both are GREAT) but Frank's acting in The Joker's Wild was was just as great.

I agree

I love this movie.....

Favorite lines:

"Ya know you'd make a perfect stranger?"

Austin Mack:"I'll call him a doctor"
Joe E Lewis: "Don't call me a doctor. Call me a drunk."

Joker is Wild

Absolutely one of my favorite Sinatra movies...I can still remember the first time I saw it in Philly...He was marvelous as Joe E. Lewis...and what a great cast...great lines in the film...And, you know what ? I actually liked the ending...it was a reflection on Joe E. Lewis's life and was quite approprate...Wish he would have stuck with Jeanne Crain, who was gorgeous in this film...

Charlie,

I totally agree with you. It's a great flick.

I've seen it dozens of times and never thought about this until recently but I wonder how hard it was for FS to "break-up" his singing voice in the picture. It's extremely noticeable on the sound track in the Hollywood collection. Granted he had Lewises
phrasing down pat, but to get that scratchy voice at time when his own was excellent had to take some talent.

Is there any chance of the film "The joker is Wild" be released in DVD?

I love this film.

I watched this movie on TCM last weekend. It was the first time I saw it. It was a great movie and a great portrayal by FS. Does anyone know if he received any notoriety for this part?

Of sorts, The Song "All The Way" did ensure that the film was a recipient of at least one Academy Award.

THE JOKER IS WILD

There's a most touching scene in this movie when FS and Jeanne Crain were viewing a silhouette of the likeness of Bing Crosby through a curtain while the silhouette of Bing sang "June In January." This scene seemed to me as a tribute that FS paid to his dear friend Bing. -Del-

Just to correct a mistake in the lead post of this thread, FS did not sing "Chicago (That Toddlin' Town)" in the film. It was recorded in the style of some of the other movie songs and released as a Capitol single (along with a studio version of "All The Way") in conjunction with the film release.

See here for a discussion of the film prerecording session: FIFTY YEARS AGO TODAY, Frank recorded... (Wednesday, October 3, 1956).

I had a big surpise the other day. I saw The Jokes is Wild on Cinamax of all channels. Even if it was in the middle of the day. I was surpised.

Never thought to see it on a channel like that.
