There is also a very nice picture and story in Thursday's New York Post publicizing Frankie's concert at Town Hall on Monday (16th) evening!

Greg - Thanks for the links! I especially liked the Daily Mail article. When I saw that first picture, I thought it was Frank. It's so good to know that Frankie gets some recognition. It's too bad this present musical scene can not appreciate his type of music now.

Frankie, Jr. at Coconut Creek Casino
We were fortunate to see Frank, Jr. this past week…actually our fourth time and he was as good as ever. There was a nice review with some great pictures. Enjoy.

I am SO SICK of these so called journalists and the way they treat Frankie. They can all go suck an egg.

I am just grateful when I read anything about Frankie. Publicity is so important for an entertainer. And when I see pictures of him that remind me so much of his father I realize how starved I am for Frank. Yes, starved is the word.

He's Frank Sinatra Jr, for heaven's sake, and even that is wrong; he's not Junior. He's his own man, and I hate the way he's perpetually compared to his Dad, as if his Father is the reason he's great at what he does. Senior said, I think and correct me if I'm wrong, that his son knows music better than he does. If I had to endure my Dad's aura for most of my life, I think I'd go absolutely mad, and I respect Frank a lot for having to endure that schlock for most of his life and keep his sanity. I'm also a Junior, Jacob Kollegger Jr., but my Dad's popularity was limited to a certain following, mostly family....
I made the big mistake of thinking, the first time I met Nancy, that I'd be seeing HIS daughter. After seeing her and being invited backstage, I could quite literally ask, "Frank who?" if you asked me right then and there about Nancy's Dad. If I can make it to Frank's shows in London in September, I will, but it's very iffy, since I've got simulator training at that time. But if I have time, I will go, to see Franklin Wayne Sinatra, who's the son of whatsisname....

The journalist doesn't even realize what he's doing. Still, hard to excuse this review. Talk about damning with faint praise. Jebus. Do they have to go on and on about comparing father and son? It's ridiculously unfair and made me downright angry. That cat's got his own sound and style. He's not impersonating his dad for crying out loud! I'm a big fan of Frankie's. I especially love "It's Alright." What a great album!!! And no "Sinatra" songs needed, either.

I saw an interview not long ago with frankie on Canadian tv I think. He's so above all these cliched comparisons. He's a musician first and foremost and I'd be surprised if these boring and poorly written critiques phase him...a cool customer.

<< Unlike other Sinatra impersonators, who have to learn to walk and talk like the Chairman of the Board, Jr's mannerisms were the real deal, encoded into his DNA. >>
Oh so now Frankie's just a friggin' impersonator? I only "liked" about 5% of that blog article. Maybe 3%.

Those writers ( so called journalists ) come across as being just so damn dumb...sorry to be so Frank or I should say Blunt.
But really what do they know? They try to be witty and kind..but they just don't get it. Ultimately they only make themselves look bad by their own lack of sophistication and knowledge. |

Many folks who write for smaller media markets today are underequipped for the role they've been assigned. Perhaps they wrote contemporary music reviews in their college papers, so they considered themselves experts on music in general. Perhaps they write for their current employer as a sideline to other jobs, perhaps not even media related.
Until a journalist, or columnist, in any local media market can be vetted, one must take what they write with a shrug. Try to find the writer's CV - can't find one easily. |

It's not the young reporters I'm talking about when I write on the disgust of Frank Jr. being endlessly compared to his Dad. I talk about the seasoned pros who do it anyway, for years and years. I think at least as long as I'm alive, so at least 1975 (best year ever, modestly-speaking of course), they've been comparing Jr. to Sr.
There's a cheesy (in my opinion) thread in the Frank forum about what one would say to Frank Sr. if he were alive.... I would invite him to a drink, first of all, and then ask him if he isn't pissed off that his son is perpetually compared to him.... As mentioned, I am a junior myself, and I think my Dad would hate his son to have to endure this crap year after year, decade after decade.... I'm sure Frank Sr., although he can't help it, would agree, and then politely excuse himself to talk to a chick sitting next to us, since I'm a square....

What bothers me is that they ( interviewers ) arn't content to look at Frank Jr and celebrate his own career , accomplishments and experiences. He has traveled the world, he is highly intelligent and extremely knowledgable on many subjects. He would be a very interesting man to interview. But they are too stupid to see and appreciate that. Instead they rehash the same old stupid questions over and over using very little imagination or effort. I bet just about anyone here could conduct a more interesting interview of him than most of those hack writers.
One thing I notice is that those so called writers seem to all come armed with a cup of sugar in one hand and a knife in the other. I could imagine an interview of FSJR where his dad barely gets mentioned because they got so involved and lost track of time and forgot to ask ...oh by the way...before we go.... Frankie how is your dad? You get the idea anyway. A couple of questions are reasonable because of the nature of the show he is doing. I saw Frank Jr and Sr many times. Two equally wonderful separate experiences. Best example illustration would be two large circles that overlap a bit. I remember Tom Snyder doing a pretty good interview or two. A reporter who writes an article like that about Frankie is just lazy, in my opinion. He considers it just another assignment so he bangs on his keyboard for a few minutes and sends his editor the garbage he comes up with.
He doesn't do any research or he would write about what an amazing musician Frankie is. He doesn't try to tell his readers anything new or he would write about how hard Frankie works to keep the songbook and the big band sound alive. He doesn't bother to listen to Frankie's music or he would write how Frankie is a wonderful singer and performer in his own right. That reporter just writes the obvious facts that everyone already knows. When he does that, he disrespects not just Frankie, but, the newspaper readers as well.

Those who know Frankie's impeccable work realize that he's a great artist in his own right! His recordings are unique and stand alone as a great testament to his own musical brilliance...in concert his showmanship shines bright...He presents the Great American Songbook or any songs with authority and sincerity!
