Thanks for the notice, Orestis. Pending confirmation from Nancy, I've started this thread.

This is the link to the Amazon page: Classic Sinatra II. No additional info as yet.

The predecessor Capitol CD title, Classic Sinatra: His Great Performances 1953-1960, was a huge commercial success for many years after its release in 2000.

It appears the label is trying to Capitol-ize [pun intended] on the success of the rival Warner/Reprise offerings Nothing But The Best and Seduction, and/or they're scrambling to ride the coattails of the upcoming Concord Records releases.

Yeah, it seems that whenever Reprise/Concord/FSE has new and exciting CDs planned, Capitol always releases a compilation album of their own.

All of this is about pure name exploitation (and, I suspect, in FS's case, sour grapes on Capitol's part), for both FS and Capitol's other big compilation cash cow, the Beach Boys. In both bases, they've gone beyond milking the cow. They've started in on the bull, as well.

And the disgusting, disenheartening truth is, they've been so damned successful at it.

BTW, Happy Easter, everybody.

This CD is now listed on the EMI Music Canada website, so there's no doubt this is an official Capitol release.

Also, the title shown by Amazon is now "Classic Sinatra, Vol. 2."

That info makes it more tangible. Imagination is not on either of those lists.

Track listing available

The Track Listing has now been posted above. I'll add recording dates and original album titles shortly.

The bonus track, "This Can't Be Love," is still somewhat of a mystery. Sinatra never did a Capitol studio recording of this song. It may be from his NBC radio series To Be Perfectly Frank, broadcast on December 18, 1953.

More details to be supplied as they become available.

Capitol's career achievement listings didn't mention FS's 13 Grammy Awards.

Another possibility is from a March 7, 1958 episode of The Frank Sinatra Show on ABC television.

Thanks Nancy, After reading this thread I was a bit nervous about the comment I left.
From reading this thread I see reprise and capitol aren't the best of friends and I'm sorry if it's a coattails project or if some see it as Capitol's sour grapes. I've said it before, I'm not the most knowledgeable fan when it comes to the buisness side and the history of Frank's recording sessions or contract issues etc etc. All I know is I love the voice and it makes me feel like no other voice can. There's some gems here, I can't wait to get my hands on. So while some of you may find it to be riding the Sinatra name, I consider it a gift. If the SFF will promote it, I'll support it and can't wait to get my hands on it.

It's like on my Springsteen chat board, People complain about Essentials and Greatest hits projects, But not everything is for the diehards. There's people just joining the party and it's a good introduction.

Any official Frank project that introduces new fans and keeps the flame burning is ok with me.

We are fine with this one and helped Capitol put it together. I didn't know that when I first heard about the project so I was a bit cynical until FSE confirmed that we are on board. It's on the news page with recording dates and personnel.

I knew Capitol would include a previously unreleased track. It will be interesting to find out where the track is from.

That's an understatement, Oren. It's an awesome time. Now I have 3 FS releases pre-ordered. Plus my wife surprised me tonight by bringing home 3 more CDs, including Classic Sinatra I. I'll need another cabinet soon.
