It is indeed a fabulous collection, quite a contrast to listening to the concept albums as FS is a little freer to try different quirky songs & styles.

Fantastic!!!
This set is the equivalent of a huge collection of 45's. I had all of the 45's, and before this set, these songs weren't as easily accessible. Some of this material also appeared on great Capitol compilation albums I've always loved...like All The Way, This Is Sinatra 1 & 2, Look To Your Heart, and The Rare Sinatra. This set puts everything in one compact place! I carry this set everywhere now in my iPod... Fantastic music!!!

Tell her you love her is a very rare song, and a good one.
On LP, we could find here :

Another LP with "Tell Her You Love Her" was this one: Sunday And Every Day With Frank Sinatra 1972 On compact disc, I think the track has only been issued officially in this box set. |

Strange that, I never thought of it as a particularly hard to come by song, mainly because one of the first ever Frank songs I heard was this, on an EP, but looking at the only 2 LP and 1 CD release I guess it is. For some reason I always thought it was on other Capitol CD's but I cant think of them, and therefore it doesn't seem to be.

Do you mean when was In the Wee Small Hours recorded? If so its sessions came from 8th, 16th 17th February 1955 and 4th March.
The EP's you have, judging by the catalogue numbers, are the US releases associated with the album so would have been released the same year as the album (1955). EP's of the Capitol albums are not rare, what I find over here at least is hard to come by, certainly in mint condition is In the Wee Small Hours in its "Part 1 and Part 2" 10 inch album format. Either way this probably all belongs in the specific album thread rather than with the singles. Last edited by Nick_Bradley78; 08-25-2009 at 02:19 PM. |

Worth bumping, a classic and excellent set I play often, back from the days when Capitol knew what to do with the catalogue one of their great artists.

Absolutely right Nick it is a great set. Capitol did alot better job at that time with their releases. Except for the exclusion of "If You Are But A Dream" this is one of my favorite box sets.

Gem After Gem After Gem...
Here's my favorite analogy:
When I listen to The Cap Singles, I feel like a kid who's been locked up in Junior's Cheesecake Dept., and can't get out until he's sampled every piece of cheesecake!! "How Could You Do A Thing like That To Me?" "The Impatient Years," "Time After Time," "How Little We Know," & on and on... This box set has its own wing in my SinatraLand Museum! ![]() ![]()

Strangely Frank returned to If You Are But a Dream a couple of times, for the first time in decades, during the '91 world tour. You're right, its a wonderful song and like many the "afficienado's" enjoy, not one of his best known.

It's back
Reminder that "The Complete Capitol Singles Collection" is back and available from Collector's Choice. All 96 recordings are there on four CD's. It's Frank, mostly with Nelson, during the period when he recorded all those great Capitol concept albums (Wee Small Hours, Swingin' Lovers, Close to You, Come Fly with Me, Where Are You, Only the Lonely, etc, etc).
I saw no mention of the excellent book that came with the box, but presume it is included. If you're not familiar with this set, read some of the posts on this thread. Been unavailable for quite a while and is back now. Last edited by Edwin; 06-25-2010 at 06:22 PM. |

But did this ever go out of print? I am always buying a copy of this for friends for birthdays.
What is astonishing about this set is that you see Sinatra is more willing to gamble on some things during this period than he is given credit for. There is some stuff on here that seems as bad as something Mitch Miller would have given him, yet he is more than willing to try it, and actually sounds INTO it. |
