If the track lineup in the press release is accurate, the tracks on Duets II have been reordered from the original.

Also, the usual question: I wonder if any remastering has been performed? Since it's not mentioned in the release, I'd assume not.

forum news page with email address of Capitol/EMI publicity department.

I tend to think you may be right Bob, looking at the press releases, a new re-master would doubtless have been a prominent item, would it have been part of the product.

It seems from press releases and the Forum news page, that it is indeed "My Way", Ron.

The Capitol/EMI press release on the Forum News Page confirms your educated guess, Ron.

[Simultaneous typing, Marty.]

To complete the track details: "My Way" was recorded by Frank Sinatra with Orchestra conducted by Patrick Williams, July 6, 1993 in Hollywood. Willie Nelson's part was recorded May 10, 1994.

This is the same FS take that was used for the overdub duet with Luciano Pavarotti, released on the CD, Sinatra 80th: Live In Concert. (There exists yet another duet of this version of "My Way" with Jon Secada, which is still unreleased.)

Sorry for the repeat. It was late. I was tired and I guess I didn't research enough. Should I delete entire thread?

Suzanna, No leave it as it is.

Just one query though. It seems the "My Way" duet with Luciano Pavarotti, which was included on the Sinatra 80th Live CD is not included in this new double package - or is this now the same FS track but with Willie Nelson filling in the blanks?

See my post over in the Duets thread in Frank's Recordings. It's the same FS track with a different overdub. There is also one by Jon Secada still unreleased.

*** This is the same FS take that was used for the overdub duet with Luciano Pavarotti ****

It's from the same session, yes, but it is at least partly not exactly the same take, Bob. Aside from the released Pavarotti version only having 4 out of the 5 choruses, there also are differences in those lines FS sings on both duets. The differences are very small ones, perhaps best comparable to the differences between the two released takes of the 1991 Silent Night.

The Willie Nelson My Way duet would be cool to hear. I am a closet 70's Country music fan.

I'm afraid I am forced to pass on this one. I already own both Duets on cassette, original CD and limited edition "gold" releases. I also can't see purchasing it a 4th time for one song.

Now, if they had included 2 additional disks of Frank's recordings without the duets partner included, I'd be in line the first day of release to purchase it.

At this point, I am saving all of my Sinatra purchases for live concert cd/dvd's. I loved the release of Sinatra at the Golden Nugget a couple of months ago and can't wait for more of that to come.

Further update - in Europe, the recently announced 2-CD-Box-Repackage of Duets and Duets II will be issued with a DIFFERENT "bonus track" - everything (package & content) will be the same but instead of the unreleased FS-Willie Nelson duet on "My Way", it will feature the previously available (on "Sinatra 80th Live) "My Way"-duet with Luciano Pavarotti.

Why not make a "TRIO" version with FS, Pav, and Willie?

<< Further update [...] Luciano Pavarotti >>

I guess EMI believes the European audience will prefer Pavarotti to country-western. Convoluted thinking, IMO.

<< Why not make a "TRIO" version? >>

That's moving from two separate strange pairings to the truly absurd. Considering Frank's own negative opinion of the song to start with, he would probably find any of these combinations "appropriate." I'm sure Capitol/EMI will want to save that one for the Centennial birthday reissue.

The "My Way" with Pav is also on a 2CD set of Pav's "Greatest Hits" on Decca.

"My Way" has taken on a universality. Let us not forget Elvis and The Sex Pistols.

Speaking of Pav and with all due respect to the other greats of Opera when I look at the cover of "Only The Lonely" I think of "Pagliacci" and how Sinatra was perhaps the greatest "Canio" of them all. Sinatra's "Vesti La Giubba" would have been DEFINITIVE.

Sure, Bob, but then, "absurd" is in a sense the only fitting word to describe this so-called 'birthday gift' by Capitol for perhaps the best singer they ever had on the label. So Ron's suggestion would fit...

- but if so, then they must also add a new orchestral track. Puff-Daddy would be great.

Bernhard.
