All those concerts recorded in 1993 and 1994 for the Duets project would make a really nice live compilation album. It's lucky that Mr Sinatra was captured during this period - where some would argue he is at his dramatic best.

It would make a nice follow-up to the LEGENDARY Vegas Live set. As Mr Sinatra was performing in big arenas, the live recordings must have a really different feel to them - compared to the Vegas recordings.

I guess Capitiol Records has the masters. Let's hope one day they will see the light!

Favorite track from Frank's Duets I & II

What is your favorite "duet" from Frank's album in 1993 and 1994?
Mine would have to be "New York, New York"w/ Tony Bennett, they both sound like they're enjoying the song. In a close second would have to be "Where or When"w/Steve & Eydie.

Chuck Granata's suggestion that the first sessions of " I remember Tommy" should be released is a great Idea. All those tracks complete?
If so and especially with new arrangements and new vocal intrepretations would be a great new release

Perhaps with the new sinatra group this would be a great idea for the next project

I even have a idea for the title- " Frank SInatra- I remember Tommy, DIFFERENTLY"

hey who knows - we can dream cant we

quiet night around here, So I thought I'd listen to some Frank and read some older threads. I'm listening to Duets as I type this. I must admit I am a bit suprised by some of the negative posts about it. First off I think Frank sounds great. I too would love to hear the original recordings without the duets, BUT I think it's a brilliant project.

I'm a sucker for One for my baby, granted Frank sings alone I just really think that Kenny G's playing adds a lot to the song.

Other favorites (Witchcraft with Anita Baker and New York New York with Tony Bennett)

Great album. I needed it tonight

The promise of increased sales perhaps? FS had very little to do with the choice of "duet" partners. See post #101 above.

Yes I had thought this, I was just looking into it a bit more, seen as though it is a song I adore.

Speaking of "Mack The Knife," I'm reminded that the version used in Duets II with Jimmy Buffett is (at least partially) the same as that heard and seen on the The Ultimate Event concert video tape. See post #122 above.

"New" duet with Charles Aznavour

A new FS electronic duet appears on a double-CD by French singer Charles Aznavour, titled Duos, released this week in Europe. The track contains what appears to be Frank Sinatra's 1963 Reprise version of "Young At Heart" with overdubbed vocals by Aznavour.

Name: Aznavour-Duos.jpg
Views: 562
Size: 9.3 KB

Complete details about this "new" duet have not yet been revealed. I've added an entry for it to the Additional "Duets" post earlier in this thread. (Link to Amazon: here)

I just came across a duet with Aretha Franklin on iTunes. From the CD "Jewels in the Crown: All-Star Duets with the Queen".

Whoops - never mind. It appears to be the same "What Now My Love" from the Duets album.

James, some of the duets from the 1993/1994 session were also released under the duet partners record label. There was also a version of Fly Me To the Moon with George Strait, but the decided to use the version with Antonio Carlos Jobim on the duets album instead. The Strait version was released on his own album. I can't remember if there were any others that were like this. I don't believe there were.

Another bit of trivia about the "I've Got You Under My Skin" duet with Bono. It also appears as the B-side on a 7" French single of U2's "Stay (Fraraway So Close)". I'm a bit of a U2 fan.

There's also a famous story (amongst U2 fans) which was related in Bill Flannagan's book "U2 At The End Of The World" about Bono's version of his meeting with Frank. The punch line goes that Bono was at Frank's home with Frank and some of Frank's friends, (probably after they had first met for the video shoot) who drank Bono under the table. Bono dozes off in his chair and he wakes up to find his crotch is all wet. At first he's horrified and thinks to himself, my God, I've wet myself sitting on Frank Sinatra's sofa--(actually he uses stronger language)...then he realizes he's merely spilled his drink on himself when he fell asleep.

I'd really love to know the truth to this. Bono is a great story teller.

Mike that's a hilarious story. Imagine waking up on Frank Sinatra's sofa and thinking you wet your pants.
