Target...

I also reside in Jersey and immediately after reading Edwins above post I ran out to the local Target store but, alas, I had to pay 13.99.It is well worth the extra 4.99.I`ve said it before and I`ll say it again, I`ll take anything related to FS wether it be bad, good, or whatever. When Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig said their farewells to the thousands of fans in Yankee stadium, those fans simply stood, applauded, and weeped.I feel the very same emotion while listening to this concert. He was a gift to all of us.

Do the math....

Ed, 13.99-9.99=4.00 not 4.99; LOL.... the first 5 days or so that a cd is available it is on sale price as the stock may consist of promotional allocations and "samples"..this is not to denigrate the quality of the product, it merely implies that these were the first batch produced; so it behooves you to buy a.s.a.p. from the original release date! Which in this case was April 25th, I believe.

Have a gift card from Best Buy on a return of an FAS CD that I already owned, so thought I'd drop by there on Thursday on the way back from STL & pick up this new CD. I searched and searched on their web page, and they DO NOT HAVE IT!

Now isn't that a crock of crud!!! Here I stand (or sit) w/a $20.00 free card and these turkey's don't have it!

Oh well, wait for half.com later I guess! Darn, darn, darn!!!

Back from no-PC-exile into Sinatra-Cyberworld... and my first posting has to be on this wonderful new CD which I have been enjoying all over during the past couple of days.

Will post a detailed review shortly, also regarding my views on some of the subjects mentioned previously. For now, just my suggestion that everyone who hasn't done so yet should get a copy a.s.a.p.

Bernhard.

Lois,

If you go to the Best Buy that's next to Mid Rivers Mall, they should have it. That's where I purchased mine for around $15.

Happy Shopping

Thanks, Joey. That's the one I was thinking of, but checked it out on the web and they didn't have it. So, natrurally, asssumed the store wouldn't either!

So found it at Wal-Mart for $9.72, hallelulia, right in little ol'e Washington, MO! Sorry you paid five bucks more! And it was their last copy as well.

Can't wait to open it. That's going to be my special gift for this evening!

Where U been, Joe??? Missed you!

Thanks Lois!

I don't mind the extra $5. The concert is something I've waited for the last few years (a concert of Sinatra in good voice during the 80's--what more could a fan wish for) and was worth every penny. I promise that you will enjoy it. For me, it made up for the fact that I've never seen the man live and in concert.

As for my where-abouts, I decided to take a break last fall as things were getting a bit heated (there are many here I really like and didn't want to risk losing friends over something as trivial as politics). As always, life intervened and it kept me away longer than anticipated (a Nov. vacation to Germany, Christmas, a new apartment in a different side of town, and the new job has required more work than I originally anticipated). Even my family and close friends complained that I didn't mail them as often as they were used to.

Fortunately, I have kept up with the events of this site, so I am pretty current with all of the activities around here.

Things have settled down a bit for me and I look forward to getting back in touch with many here on the forum.

This is one damn great Album. I have been forturnate to see FS perform live many many times from the 1950's through the end in the 90's. This album really captures the feel of a live performance from the 80's. Of course the Album can't capture the excitment of being at a venue when Frank is going to perform. There was always an air of being somewhere special. Many times he was not even introduced....the overture would stop and then kind of a silence...Then when he was first spotted coming on the stage you would here a scream from a fan and we all would rise to our feet and cheer wildly as he went into his opening song...always a swinger..and you knew he was singing just for you....I remember his last performance here in the Los Angeles area in Long Beach around 1995...While his voice might not have been the quality as it once was his interpretation of the lyrics and sense of swing and jazz was flawless.......The ballads could still bring tears to your eyes.....And the sense of excitment of being in the same room with the Master was same as it was in the 50's when I first saw him live at the Sands......Yes...a wonderful Album...A genius at work...

New CD..

I love this new CD, call me a fanatic but I want all of Sinatra as I can get. By the way I bought my CD at Border's for $16, it's worth every penny, I just hope more of this type of Sinatra material finds it's way to us fans. Joe V.

POWERFUL !!!

To me, this new CD illustrates what a POWERFUL performer he was from beginning to end. It's a treasured document of a show that we'll not see the likes of ever again! It's great to have a show like this to attend whenever we want... "to play and play again... "

Hearing the soaring overture brings me back to the times when I sat , dressed to the nines, with my family in HIS audience waiting. When the opening bars of I've Got the World on a String begin to blare, I can still see he and Jilly sprinting onto the stage for what would always be a memorable and POWERFUL show!

A lovely way to spend an evening, indeed !!!

Frank Sinatra Live from Las Vegas

I'm absolutely thrilled with this wonderful, exciting and intimate new CD!!
I'm so happy for the people who never had the opportunity to see FS in concert and now they can close their eyes and be there at the show!!!

I just picked my copy up after work tonight!

Some of the songs I've never even heard before:
'The Girls I Never Kissed' and 'Only One To Customer'
Imagine that... still hearing new songs!

I've only had a glance so far the liner notes...but I love the comments by Frank Sinatra Jr. and Bill Miller....
The whole thing is just Wonderful

Francis Albert LIVE at the Golden Nugget

Yes, there are indeed some fine moments in this live performance. Infact, a couple places reminiscent of his early 60's late 50's voice particularly in several passages where the mask and tone is fully open (Mack the Knife, My Way, One to a Customer and others).

I especially like his intros to the songs..ie "45 members in his orchestra and he gets one to start Mack the Knife". Sinatra had a fabulous sense of humor and it appears he was in rare form for the December '86 taping..mentally and vocally.

The Golden Nugget Orchestra fronted by Bill Miller is certainly fabulous and a highlight of the package.

I feel that is about a fine a LIVE album as could be obtained by Frank with the exception of '66 Basie at the Sands. Even a younger..better hearing..Sinatra was always better in the studio than live. The Norvo '59 in Australia might be the one exception.

All in all..run to your local record store 'cause my copy was the last since several dozen were received the previous Wednesday. I paid top dollar - over $20 - but well worth it.

God I miss him,

Holmes

I actually pre-ordered my copy from Amazon.co.uk but it didnt arrive at all on time, and when i then checked its availability it said 'one/two weeks'.

Now they are calling it unreleased, until 30th May i believe.

Interesting, Adam..

Don't tell me they under produced. Am I to believe from your analysis that it will take them three weeks to press and supply retailers or..in your case..amazon.

Is this selling that well? Apparently so...'my record store said that their supply was sold within, well, three or four days. I was lucky enough to get the last one on the shelf.

If you really want it bad enough I would check a retailer..

Good luck,

Holmes

I dont know why the release date slipped here in the UK?

Maybe the European demand was greater than expected, because there seems to be copies available via amazon marketplace from continental sellers.

I could order from Amazon.com (US) and perhaps get it more quickly, but i think i will just wait until the 30th May release date.

Stupid me, Adam..

completely forgot you live in England where, yes, the resupply is no doubt a different ballgame.

Sinatra sells better in UK than here in the states? Why is that do you suppose?

Just curious,

I would be interested to see where that statistic came from!

Sells more albums literally? Or more albums as a ratio?

Or more albums in a certain band of age?

It is so easy to put a slant on a figure.
