FRANK SINATRA SINGS LONDON BY NIGHT (Capitol UK) 1962 Vinyl Compilation

early 60s Capitol Compilation perhaps released with an eye to outwardly mirroring the Reprise LP Great Songs From Great Britain (released the same year in the United Kingdom). Though apart from the title track and striking cover, there is little else of a British flavour

Catalogue No. T20389
track listing

Side One
  • London By Night
  • Jeepers Creepers
  • Ebb Tide
  • My Blue Heaven
  • The Moon Was Yellow
  • The Lonesome Road

Side Two
  • On The Sunny Side Of the Street
  • Where Are You ?
  • South Of The Border
  • Something Wonderful Happens In Summer
  • Night & Day
  • Autumn Leaves

What a smashing cover.

Funny I've been singing" London By Night" on and off the past few days.

It definitely looks like Capitol was trying to hang onto the coattails of the Reprise release. I do love the cover though!

It was issued by Capitol in the UK to commemorate Sinatra's appearances there during his 1962 World Tour.

It appears that way. Because the songs are derived from sessions between 1953 and 1961, some were not recorded in stereo. A "stereo" release would have included some mono or electronically re-channeled (Duophonic) tracks.

It was also issued in Australia as Capitol T20389 (the same catalog designation as the version from Great Britain), Capitol-Encore ENC9224 (EMI's budget line) and Capitol/Summit SRA001 (with an alternate cover). The alternate cover version (Piccadilly Circus) has the Capitol "target" logo and the green Capitol label, which indicates that it was released between 1969 and 1971.
