I have to say I agree with you. This is probably my least-played Sinatra Capitol album. I think it has been said Frank basically just "exhales" the vocals on this album. I prefer Frank's vocals when he really pushes the sound out, such as on the "Sings For Only the Lonely" album. I like some of the songs to be sure; but I wish the album had more variety.

Maybe the album just hasn't "clicked" with me yet. I was a long time getting into the music of Mahler. But, eventually, I did, and now I play Mahler recordings quite frequently (except for the 8th symphony, which also has not "clicked" with me).

Sound quality most definitely matters, but I have been moved to tears listening to Here's That Rainy Day through my little laptop computer speakers, too. He's that good. And so was GJ and that orchestra.

Thanks for the interesting diagram, Matt. I agree, sound quality should always be a top priority because it effects how the music is enjoyed.

This is my most played Sinatra-Jenkins album. The vocals, emotion put into every song and arrangements are all amazing. A Cottage For Sale is in my top 5 greatest FS recordings.

"I'll Never Smile Again"

When Frank had TD's trombone, and the Pied Pipers to support him, the song was a lovely tribute to "lost love." With Gordy's "Tchaikovsky-esque" bed, Frank is OUT THERE - ALL BY HIMSELF, his singing is visceral, breathtaking, and amazing!

I just adore this album, as I do ALL of Jenkins!

I love this as a subtler, more brooding counterpart to 'Sings For Only The Lonely'. Where 'Only The Lonely' is dynamic and bombastic, 'No One Cares' is dreamy and reflective. Heartache comes in many colors and shades, and the Sinatra canon reflects that so well.

I find 'Where Do You Go' particularly striking and haunting.

This makes me cry everytime. Just like Frank's version. Johnny Carson's favorite song by Johnny Burke and Chester Babcock.

Listened to "No One Cares" last night. I think this albums deserves a little more credit than what it has got over the years. "Here's That Rainy Day" what a performance. I love the updated lyrics on "I Can't Get Started" "Designed The Latest, IBM, Brain" Lyrics way ahead of their time and still 100 per cent relevant in 2011.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think it would be 6 more years until Frank would work with Gordon Jenkins again on "September Of My Years" in 1965.

I enjoy this Capitol album. Definitely underrated. However, I tend to pay less attention to the softer Capitol albums compared to the more upbeat ones, like Come Dance With Me.

All of the Capitol albums are worth listening to though, especially if you need to get outta that "lonely" fix.

After an initial listening to this magnificent album, and to Frank's remarkable version of "I'll Never Smile Again," I sent a letter to Capitol (I was young, full of ideas, but very innocent in those days), suggesting that they might do a "Tribute To Tommy Dorsey." Nothing came of it at Capitol, but imagine my delight when Reprise released "I Remember Tommy!" I couldn't sleep for days, because I actually thought that Frank would send me a note thanking me for my "TD Suggestion," so I waited for the mail delivery every day! As my wonderful Mom used to say, "Ah, Youth...!"

Thanks Bob. Have not listened to All Alone in a while so that might be a good one to put on next.

I love this album but, it's so relentlessly sad, I don't dare listen to it when I'm in a really blue mood. When No One Cares has got to be one of the most heartbreaking songs ever written and the performance is one of FS's most poignant and touching.

This month No One Cares is celebrating an anniversary. 52 years old, I think.

That's been happening to me too.

50 years now for Ring a Ding Ding.

I was thinking 40.

And, as you've posted before Nancy, his music is so timeless, it's easy to forget it was created so long ago.

That can be the best time to play it, and usually the only time I do (at least as a whole). It can be therapeutic (for lack of a better term) for some of the darker times.
