OK, I am a bit late on this one, it's just come up in the Amazon list of things to buy. Someone tell me please if this version of Here's That Rainy Day is on any other set with Gordon Jenkins.

Besides The Capitol Years, "Here's That Rainy Day" is also in The Platinum Collection. And both of those collections include an extra ten seconds near the end of the song with French horns which were edited out of the album version.
Another disc with (the edited version of) this song is Classic Sinatra II. Bob in Boston

A true masterpiece of musical architecture!
Sono tanti, tanti anni che ho " No One Cares " ma non smetto mai di ascoltarlo.

Re: "Here's That Rainy Day"--It was introduced by John Raitt in a Jimmy Van Heusen-Johnny Burke musical called "Carnival In Flanders." Eunice and I saw Raitt with the Springfield Symphony Orchestra, about two years before he died. On that lovely evening, the star of "Carousel" and "Pajama Game," in his 80's, was still matinee idol-handsome, and in fine voice.
A JR quote that evening (from a 3x5 card) -- "this next song is from one of my resounding flops, and if it wasn't for Frank Sinatra's superior version, I wouldn't be singing it at all!" And Raitt proceeded to do a beautiful version of "Here's That Rainy Day!"

Are you guys sure that the blonde on the left of the album cover is Peggy Lee? It doesn't really look like her. I always thought it was Angie Dickenson. Coincidentally she would play Mrs. Ocean in Ocean's 11 about 6 months after the release of this album.

This is "Tchaikovsky, Chopin, Jenkins, & Sinatra" rolled into one!" Or, to use one of my favorite apt descriptive phrases -- "How Great Is Great?"

The first four sung notes on the title song are brilliant. "When no one cares..." It's almost classical/operative. Very dramatic without crossing the line to cheese. God bless Jimmy Van Heusen. I love that man. Wish I could have met him (and let's not forget Sammy Cahn!).

For years after the original LP was released, it was my favorite Sinatra ballad album. I was already totally immersed by those other wonderful collections, such as "Wee Small Hours", "Close to You" and "Only the Lonely", but maybe it was because this particular set of songs somehow seemed especially to touch my inner emotions. I can still remember getting chills at his version of the old chestnut "Stormy Weather" and "Cottage For Sale" is absolutely sublime. Gordon Jenkin's arrangements alternately soared and simmered. It still seems to me that recording sessions like these contained a special type of musical magic. Astounding !! Rob
