Description

The Platinum Collection box set is a stunning brand-new 3-CD package that features the best of Frank's recordings from the Capitol Years. Compiled with the approval and co-operation of the Frank Sinatra Estate, it carries the "official" Frank Sinatra signature seal of approval. The set is presented in a slipcase, with artwork that features photographs from the Capitol era, and has a cool, retro yet classic feel. Also included is a 20-page booklet, containing a history of the Sinatra/Capitol era written by Ken Barnes, record producer and Sinatra academic. Plus, there's a chronology and an overview of the Concept Albums of the Sinatra collection.

And The Best News Of All

It cost less than fifteen quid, less than a fiver a CD and basically the first time or casual purchaser is getting the Greatest Hits of the Capitol Era, but the release leaves enough scope for a new convert to go out and seek more.

Does anyone have any information as to whether the masters for this set are the ones done by Bob Norberg at Capitol Studios or are they taken from the U.K. Masters from the 21 CD box set?

BUMP!

I found this collection when viewing the video of Mr. Sinatra singing Body And Soul for the L.A. Is My Lady taping.

There wasn't a lot of discussion of this set when it came out, and I am wondering if any of you would recommend it as far as quality goes?

There are some songs I don't have as I am still building my collection, so having some of the same songs I already do have isn't a big deal.

I think IIRC these are the Bob Norberg remasters of these songs, which are not held in terribly high regard generally, Kate. It's a fabulous compilation (but then any random compilation of Frank's Capitol recordings would be fabulous) and nicely presented - but if you don't have some of the original albums from which these tracks are drawn, they are definitely the way to go first for this material.

I think it was probably my first Capitol collection, well worth having.

Capitol is a favourite of mine and there are SO many fantastic songs to listen to - this collection is just the beginning.
