I'm sorry, I fell for the CD release date and should have said so accordingly. Of course, the 1973 LP was the first official release - thanks Ron.
What relieves me a bit is that I contributed the album details to the SFF thread for the 1973 album (linked by Bob above)- summary is: Oh yes, there was a time when I still remembered the truth!

Anyway as I wrote in another thread these days:
I've reached the age of 40 somewhat sooner than expected...

Bernhard.

Not to mention numerous non-USA Capitol LPs after that, notably the British The Rare Sinatra, and the Japanese 16-track version of Songs For Swingin' Lovers (for which the song was intended originally).
I haven't seen the track listing for this version. Is this arrangement taked to the end or is everything re-arranged.

Back on topic:

I really think that while Sinatra matured at Capitol, so did Axel while he was arranging for Television during the 1950's.

They both met to each others enhancements and here we got to see their best collaboration with each other.

The Japanese 16-track version of the Songs For Swingin' Lovers LP adds "Memories Of You" to the end of side B, making eight tracks on each side. The rest of the album follows the order of the US 15-track issue. There is also an equivalent Japanese Capitol CD. Both use the original cover art, with Frank facing away from the couple.

Bob

Do you know how to obtain the Japanese 16 song CD of "Songs for Swingin' Lovers?"

I don't understand why it was not included in the American CD of the album since Capitol added bonus tracks to the CD's of the other Sinatra albums and this was a logical choice since it was recorded for the album.

I know of the CD only from its mention elsewhere. Even if I could read Japanese, it looks like it's unavailable on Amazon's Japan website (search for "Sinatra Songs For Swingin' Lovers").

I often find it frustrating trying to locate Japanese issues. I do know a Japanese vendor who's been helpful in obtaining some hard-to-get jazz titles in the past.

Bob, on the Amazon Japan site in the upper right part of the page is a button marked "in English" - it helps make out the site better if you can't read Japanese too well.

I'd be interested in knowing more about the 16 track JPN CD of Swingin' Lovers! you heard of. When it came out, catalog #, etc.

Hi Martin,

the Japanese 16-track-CD is Capitol(Japan) TOCP8136.
Cover out of the two alternate versions is the one with FS face left.
I don't know the exact release date for this CD.

Here are the catalog nos. for the Japan 16-track versions of Songs For Swingin' Lovers:

LP: Capitol ECJ-60038 (cover=face->left; lyrics enclosed)
CD: Capitol TOCP-8136 (cover=face->left)

For completeness, here's what I have for Japan 15-track versions:

LP: Capitol ECP-88173 (cover=face->right)
LP: Capitol Everclean 2LP-204 / 2LP-3027 / CR-7226 (cover=face->left)
CD: Capitol CP32-5290 (cover=face->right)

I've added a few hyphens for readability; these may be absent from the actual catalog numbers. I have no dates for any of the above.

[Edit:] I've removed my earlier reference in the 16-track group (see below):
LP: Capitol ECJ-3027 (same as above; red vinyl)

I find The Official Price Guide to Frank Sinatra Records and CDs by Marino and Furfero helpful also, although my First Edition is very dated (1993).

Thanks Bernhard and Bob! Of those, I have the 16 track 80's issue Japanese LP.

Re the 15 track "Everclean" version - is this also a red vinyl version?

The Price Guide I mentioned says "same as above; red vinyl" for ECJ-3027 after the 16-track LP, so that's probably incorrect; i.e. that must be the same 15-track "Everclean" listed by WOW?

Bumping to discuss another song ton this LP that has proven to be a true masterpiece: When the World Was Young. The arrangement by Stordahl is so poingnat with its child like florishes at the begining, then easing into a dream like trance which allows for Frank to sing those amazingly grand lyrics by Johnny Mercer about a time lost with his love. Really, the piano solo section which begins the second haldf of the song is beautiful and really, I can only imagine Frank interpreting it becuase it seems to acctually describe Frank: a man who had somehwat of a facade and was haunted by memories of lost loves.

"When The World Was Young (Ah, The Apple Trees)"

Additional discussion of this song in a thread in the main Frank Sinatra room: Johnny Mercer.

NICE TO COME HOME TO

I have just returned home from having made a 370 mile round trip doing Census work in Central California. After so much driving I decided to give this CD a listen. I have not heard it in a very long time. The re-exposure is refreshing. This album is the perfect antidote to a day spent driving hundreds of miles. The perfect way to forget the hardship of the day.

Best,

RK
