What time does the next miracle leave?

I really loved this 6 sided LPN. The fifth side starts with "My name is Francis Albert Sinatra--. Great music, and words. Produced by Sonny Burke. I hope to put it on cassettes with my new tape player.

Disc 2

OK. Some folks don't like it or get it. I still get a kick out of it. To think someone of his age and generation would try something so new and untried. When listened to all in one sitting it's quite a journey. I've always loved his speaking voice anyway. This album isn't traditional singing.

Do you recall the excitement of seeing Trilogy for the first time in the album slot at the record store?? It was so exciting!!!

For the entire project "You and Me" stands out as my favorite.

WELL, SHANE, MY FRIEND

You just convinced me to purchase it! I was going to post a question if I should or not, as I found it for a fairly reasonable price ($13.00). And if you say Francis talks quite a bit, I, too, love to listen to his speaking voice.

Thanks for your input, my freund!

I love it too!

Shane,

You And Me is one of my favorites too.

As I posted in the Favorite Line/note thread, I've been listening to the Future cd a lot lately. I can't get enough of it.

I love the chorus, and the way the tempo keeps changing. I love when Frank sings about traveling to the planets, especially "Neptune and its deep blue sea".

The song that sometimes makes me cry is I've Been There. But what really moves me is the very end when the chorus sings "Sinatra! Sinatra! Sinatra!" What a beautiful name!

Trilogy

It was quite an event when this album came out, since we hadn't had a new Sinatra recording in more than five years. I knew it was coming; my wife bought one of the first copies in our area and had it for me after I had come home from surgery....quite a wonderful homecoming.
The reviewers for the most part praised the first part (the past) and gave lukewarm approval to the present. They weren't too kind to the future section; some dismissed it with a comment about Sinatra tries space travel and the rest is too goofy to comment on. Gordon Jenkins was apparently hurt by all the criticism; according to some reports, Frank tried to ease the pain by making sure Jenkins was the arranger for his next project (and he wrote the background music for Frank's last film, The First Deadly Sin.)

Can We?

Good Morning All, Can we start a "We Love Trilogy Club". This is such an amazing piece of music, I have to sit down and listen to each side. I don't want to miss a beat or a word. Of course, I was around when it came out , I bought the LPN. I never do believe critic anyway. I had not listened to this piece of music in about 17 years, but it is as perfect as the day I bought it. Thank you Mr. Francis Albert Sinatra!!

I have never listened to Disc 2 in its entirety.....but will upon Shane's recc'dn.

There are some real gems on Disc 1;
...'the song is you' is great!
...'Street of Dreams' is big, bold and hearty

Good Morning

Hi Chris, You must listen to all 6 sides of trilogy. My personal favorite is 5. Sit down and take the time to listen to the entire work. It was amazing for the trime it was written. Hope you have a great day today.

I love it all -- even the section that is the future. I bought "Trilogy" when it was first issued in lp format, and loved it. Then I bought it in cd format.

One of my favorite cuts is "You & Me, We Wanted It All" -- a lovely, bittersweet song.

You and Me is such an incredible break up song. I love it. I first heard that as the B side of NY NY back in the late 80's, and it instantly became a favorite.

Again , the pain behind the voice there seems to be steeped in real heartfelt experience. CLASSIC!

I love Sinatra's takes on standards on the first LP. His versions of contemporary pop songs range from brilliant ("You And Me," "New York, New York") to misguided ("That's What God Looks Like To Me"). And I've never been able to make heads or tails out of "The Future."

When this album falls short, it's not because of Frank's impeccable singing, but the material he chooses. "Trilogy" is an incredibly ambitious work that doesn't always hit the bullseye, but it's never less than interesting, and its high points are among the highlights of his career.

Sometimes the material is ill-suited for his style....there are a few examples of that on this album.

Although I love For The Good Times, I don't like Frank's version on here. Too much of a lament..and those background vocals don't thrill me at at alll.

Like Pal Joey, I've never much cared for "What God Looks Like To Me" -- the lyrics are a bit too saccharine for me. I am not overly fond of "For The Good Times," but that is mainly due to Eileen Farrell (spelling?). I think the song would have been stronger without her.

But these are minor quibbles for me with regard to "Trilogy" -- which I pretty much love as a whole.

Trilogy is three times the fun. Obviously listening to all of it in one go is hard, but the point is Sinatra tries to cap all the tenses in one go. This is not "September of my Years", it is a more difficult project.

Gordon Jenkins got unfairly critisized for fine work. He pushed Sinatra through uncharted territory, wonderment. I still consider the orchestral interlude for Neptune to be one of the greatest instrumental works ever written, and held its own in the age of early "Star Wars" and "Star Trek". What would have happened had Frank issued this part of trilogy as a single album? I believe it would have wound up as a Watertown: ahead of its time with a theme one does not associate Frank with. That does not mean The Future is bad, it just gives the listener more appreciation each time you listen to it again.

local Fourth Of July celebration

Last night I hosted karaoke and I opened the night with selections from Nancy's CD 'California Girl' First: 'Saturday In The Park' and then I played 'California Man' as well as 'Hotel California' among others!
The place I host at was slow because all the Fourth's activity was taking place near downtown and the river, the carnvival, beer garden and bands etc...
The restaurant in that area had karaoke also.
Last night we closed an hour early...so I was able to get down town and sing at the out door karaoke bar. I sang 'They All Laughed' it was fun!
It is an arrangement modeled after the 'past' from Trilogy. I just recently bought the 'Simply Sinatra' 5cd pack from Music Maestro.
I have most of the 'Sinatra' karaoke cds available.

Trilogy 'Past and Future' is among my most favorite Sinatra albums.
I bought my Trilogy album shortly after it was originally released.
It was 1979 when I first shook hands with Mr. Frank Sinatra
