christmas show
i was 10 at the time but i remember it well, plus a few others...i also remember that during the summer instead of reruns there would be summer shows...one season it was frank sinatra jr. and joey heatherton...another time it was bobby darin. funny thing isnt it that today we have over 200 channels and there is nothing on that tops what we had back then as part of network programing on a few channels.

The Frank Sinatra/Dean Martin number "It's A Marshmallow World" from this show is featured on the Capitol Release "Christmas With The Rat Pack" alongside another Frank/Dean duet of "Auld Lang Syne" also from "The Dean Martin Show" of New Years Eve 1970.

If they released this on dvd it would be a dream come true, why can't they put some of these shows on at Christmas instead of the rubbish they usually put on?

Greg Garrison Productions own the rights to this show, as Nancy has said previously elsewhere, however after communication with the Deana Martin website, I can say that the desire is there for this show to be packaged for DVD release, and negotiations are going on, I'll keep you informed.

MUST-SEE TV
NBC likes to proclaim Thursday nights as "Must See TV," but what passes for a Thursday lineup today at NBC is not quite in the same league with what the network offered on Thursday nights in December of 1967.
Especially formidable was the slate of programs beginning at 8:30, with "Star Trek," followed by "Dragnet 1968," and then "The Dean Martin Show." I was not a big fan of "Star Trek." I preferred watching CBS from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m. on Thiursday evenings in 1967. CBS actually beat out NBC during the hour from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m. with the domestic sitcoms, "My Three Sons" and "Family Affair." I watched "Star Trek" only sporadically. In retrospect, I do not know why I enjoyed watching "My Three Sons" and "Family Affair." But I did watch "Dragnet" without fail, followed by "The Dean Martin Show." I always enjoyed lusting in my heart over The Golddiggers. The Golddiggers were especially hot in 1970-71. I can still see some of them in the screening room in my head. Even remember the names of my favorites, Rosetta Cox (with the most delectable dimples), Michelle Della Fave, Paula Cinko, Tara Leigh, Susan Lund and Francine Mendenhall. The Gold Diggers
My first official date was with the younger sister of two of the Gold Diggers, The Alberici Sisters. They were gorgeous. So was their little sister.
I remember walking into her house the first time. The foyer was a shrine to the girls with pictures of them with Dean, Donald O'Connor, Frank, Ann-Margret, Red Buttons, Paul Lynde, Bob Newhart, etc. They came from a very close Italain family. Their father was a caterer and he was intimidating. My father drove us to the Soph-Hop and he had to promise her Dad that I was a gentleman and that she would be home by 11:30. I think my Dad was more afraid of him than I was. She's still a friend today and always lovely. I don't know what's become of her sisters although they were on a Gold Digger revival tour for a while.

SWEET DREAMS OF THE GOLDDIGGERS
Thanks, Voice1, for the anecdote. Anyone who was experiencing raging teenage hormones in those days must have found The Golddiggers very entertaining. Certainly there must be someone on the Forum who remembers the original summer replacement series, Dean Martin Presents The Golddiggers, starting in the summer of 68 with Frank Sinatra, Jr. and Joey Heatherton. But I was especially fond of the 1970-71 vintage Golddiggers, with the girls I have mentioned. They are such a vivid memory in my brain somewhere, that I still remember the names better than I remember anything I did yesterday. Rosetta Cox was my real favorite, a sexy, cute brunette with the most luscious dimples I have ever seen. She did a song and dance turn with Jimmy Stewart one night on "The Dean Martin Show." The song was fitting. "Easy to Love." Rosetta climaxed her turn with a tap solo.

Back to the Christmas Show
I've always wanted the "Dean Martin Christmas Show". I was fifteen then, and held my portable cassette recorder to the TV speaker, (the qualitity's not all that bad!), and I've been listening to it for, oh jeez, 37 years now?

WILL WONDERS NEVER CEASE???
Randy, your little anecdote about recording the 1967 Christmas show with a portable cassette player is one of the most amazing factoids I have ever seen here, relatively speaking. How you made a cheap audio cassette last 37 years is beyond me. That's one for the Guinness Book of World Records.

If it's anything like the reels used in the studio, it probably doesn't hurt that the tape likely was made with a natural lubricant, instead of the synthetic that would begin to be used circa 1974.

Strange but true. I'm not really a technoguy, but I guess it doesn't hurt that I only listen to it once a year! Randy |

Touching Moment!
There was an extremely touching gesture in that Martin/FS 1967 Christmas special I still recall today.....
While singing "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas," Frank walked over to Nancy and gently touched her cheek.... It was a very brief, yet extremely poigiant moment! |

Those interested in getting this released, myself included, maybe we should write to Greg Garrison!
