Delayed answer to Karyn's wish

From another thread in the Frank Sinatra forum:

Here are links to two parts of the Hollywood Palace show which contain Sinatra's set. The broadcast date was October 16, 1965, on ABC-TV; Quincy Jones conducting the Count Basie band:

Steph, that's from the Dismas House concert in St. Louis, June 20, 1965. You can find that on DVD in great quality (released 2003):

Hollywood Palace

Sinatra's performance at the Hollywood Palace was indeed a knockout. I caught in on YouTube several months ago...but unfortunately now it is gone due to copyright issues.

Of course, Frank was always good with Basie. I loved this version of Too Marvelous For Words...shame Frank didn't include it on one of his and Basie's albums.

I would have liked it if they did another album consisting of jazzy songs such as 'Do Nothin' Till You Hear From Me,' and 'You Don't Know What Love Is,' 'Say It Isn't So,' and 'Don't Go To Strangers,' etc. I don't believe Frank recorded any of these songs, unfortunately.

Oh, the number of songs I wished he had sung...

I was Watching the Clips. I really believe It's the Best of Sinatra. I think of all the recordings of Fly Me To The Moon, And Please Be Kind. They are the best. Plus watching The basie band and Qunicy Jones is an Education is music. Just watching Sonny Payne is amazing.

You can see how Sinatra Uses the energy of the band to sell the song. And taking that energy and giving it to the audiance.

Its just great.

This version of The Gal That Got Away may just be the best I have ever heard, and Everybody Has the Right To Be Wrong is on par with his studio recording. Frank was in fine form on this night. I just love Too Marvelous For Words, it's like a rush of adrenaline. Marvelous Performance!

This performance needs to be released officially on DVD!

I've seen the clips too and it is indeed a wonderful performance by Frank and the Count Basie Band. There's so much energy in the songs and this is probably my favorite version of Too Marvelous For Words... too bad this arrangement was never recorded in a studio.

I agree, this show needs to be released!

ultimate Frank and Basie

this is the 'ultimate' Fank and Basie!

i agree this is the best "fly me to the moon" here.

Frank acts and sings so free and loose, maybe because it was taped in front of a live audience, like a "real" show rather than a studio tv setup.

this should be available widely, as should his remastered tv specials.

they are Frank at his peak and absolute best.

This was an excellent show for Frank. He and the Basie band were at their zenith and the songs just sparkle. "Too Marvelous For Words" especially sparkles.
