DVD F.S The Man and His Music w/Nancy
This show is great and I highly recommend it, if you don't already own a DVD of it. I loved the stuff with Frank and Nancy... Yes Sir, That's My Baby, Downtown and These Boots are Made for Walkin'.
The thing that I like about these series of show is that they are very casual.... sure, Mr. Sinatra is wearing his tradmark tux and the uses strings but there is no elaborate sets or highly choregraphed productions, they really emphasize on the music. |

Like being in the audience...
This delight gets played every Saturday night around cocktail time. The casual, comfortable atmosphere is always a joy to watch. The numbers of Frank surrounded by the orchestra with the music table like you're in a recording studion are classic. I also love the part where Nancy rolls off the stage and goes into her next number. It was so unexpected.

The current SIRIUS Satellite Radio web promo for Nancy's new show on Siriusly Sinatra features a video clip from this show. I'm unsure how long this particular song will be available online, but click here in the "Rare Performances" panel of "What's Hot" to play:

This show is a classic! Great songs, Nancy is beautiful, Frank is elegant as usual, his voice is in great shape, the arrangements are superb, the colors are nice and oh so sixties-ish...

Thats Life
I sure wish that the Nelson Riddle Arrangement heard on TV had been the one used for the commercial recording. You haven't heard Thats Life in its original glory if you haven't seen this show. And You're Nobody and even My Kind of Town are just great; with FS energised by the jazz organ.

Does any one Know who is Playing the organ? You can see Bill Miller play the piano. But someone else is playing the organ.
I like "Thats life". It takes a kind differant feel in that show. Easy swing at it's best.

On the studio recording of "The Most Beautiful Girl," the organist was Artie Kane. Bernhard talks about this in the Frank's Recordings thread for the album Strangers In The Night. (See posts starting from: Organist.)
That's no guarantee that Kane performed in the show, but note that the TV taping was only 3½ weeks after the studio recording. The Reprise studio sessions with organ were May 11 and 16, while this show was taped at NBC June 5–6, 1966 (although it was not broadcast until December 7). |

The Most Beautiful Girl In the World
When I saw and heard FS sing this song I thought no one is better than Sinatra. There he was surrounded by probably the best musicians available and completely in control. He never looked or sounded better.

Of all the F.S. specials I like this one the best. It contains an excellent version of That's Life and a wonderful saloon song version of Just One Of Those Things. It's fun to have a video of Frank singing The Most Beautiful Girl In The World and to see the musicians playing it. Also, the duet between Frank and Nancy is just great.

You bring up a good piont. The Tv specails have very good quailty. Great video. I wish they would use some of this stuff for music video's on tv. Just mix stuff like that in with the other things you see video's with. Man & His Music 1 & 2 would be ideal.

Yeah that's realy great stuff. That show is in high quality. It is a real treasure that we are able to look at today. I often feel sorry that today such a show isn't coming out. OK on the one hand we have n
o people to do it like Frank and on the other hand it is to expensive today to make such a great show.I hope that there will come out some more of the TV things like the Reprise collection.

Its a GREAT show by the way and Frank is in really wonderful form and clearly having a lot of fun. It was also fun to see daughter Nancy with Frank, they worked so well together and Nancy was already a singing star in her own right.

I've been watching this wonderful special on Turner Classic Movies. Miss Sinatra was cute when she very quickly pointed to her father before he missed his part.
One forgets just how silly Mr. Sinatra could be until you watch him during that particular segment with Nancy. I repeat myself. It's a wonderful special. Grant

I agree, Grant. Somehow this one seems so special having Nancy there too.
Yes Sir, That's My Baby. I love it. |
