First time I have seen this Part II. I don't know why. It was marvelous. More later.

I watched Part II both times day... it's always great to see Nancy and Frank together during this show and the song selection is excellent... I especial like the saloon medley. This is definitely my favorite FS TV special.

I can't believe I forgot to watch this! This was the special I was most looking forward to!!!

Now I'm gonna have to try and find it at the Virgin Megastore, which is the only place around here that I've seen selling these DVDs.

Really surreal, Mark. I lost your post but not your picture. Excuse me, but I think this pic to me portrays FS, not the jaunty FS but the one who 'had it all.' Maybe next stamp. JMHO.

Being a "Daddy's Girl" myself, I especially enjoyed watching Nancy and Mr. Sinatra interact. It was very obvious that he adored her and that she adored him, too.

I really enjoyed Nancy's performance of "Bang, Bang, He Shot Me Down." I could feel the emotion of the song. Nancy's eyes are so expressive

I can't wait to go home today and watch it again!

Mark,
I just checked TCM'S schedule and it's not on it today. Sundays and Wednesdays are the days for the Sinatra programming.

Apart from seeing and hearing Frank in really fabulous form at the music stand surrounded by the musicians and then seeing daughter Nancy and both father and daughter together, one of my very favourite parts of this particular show, is the lovely ballad section segment.

In this segment of the show, Frank is sitting and reminiscing in a chair with a voice over song, a wonderful slow tempo version of "Just One Of Those Things" which really is so beautiful at that tempo and then that sort of fades into other scenes, including one where Frank is apparently in 'his' London apartment or hotel room with a window overlooking Trafalgar Square's Nelson's Column and then FS starts singing some of the greatest ballads of lost love including the superb "When Your Lover Has Gone"; "My Heart Stood Still" and also another one of my really favourite songs,"But Beautiful",which it seems, almost unbelievably, that FS never actually recorded in the studio whilst at either Capitol or Reprise. I love the way that FS sings "But Beautiful". The ballad segment ends back to FS in his armchair and we hear the voice-over ending of "Just One Of Those Things" It is a great medley and so beautifully presented.

BRAVA NANCY ON YOUR TRIBUTE TO HER "DADDY" ON TCM

Nancy's tribute to her Dad last night on TCM after the show Frank Sinatra A Man and His Music II was breathtaking and so beautiful. That show brought tears to my eyes. What a gift to have a show with your POP that you can share with your children and grandchildren. What I would give to have a video of my Dad who loved Francis Albert and passed away in 1993. I will remember your words forever, "He was a gift and treasure to the world." I am so happy you can now watch his films and listen to his music without pain. My mother is 87 and her favorite movie is "Kings Go Forth" with Natalie Wood. She missed it the other night but I hope to catch it again. What a great tribute in this month of May on the tenth anniversary of his passing by TCM to an icon, a great American, and a loving father, Francis Albert Sinatra:

Me too. Too bad Frank didn't record these songs around this time at Reprise. His matured voice brings a lot to the songs. But Beautiful even works well as a swinger, I would have been interested in hearing that version around 1966. He sang it this way with Dean Martin on TV in the early 70's, if I'm not mistaken, as part of a medley and it was excellent.

I know the medley you are talkning about. I guess many songs can be sung uptempo, but for me the slow version of this song is the one that works best because of the sentiment of the lyric. Frank sang it live in London in May 1975 at the RAH and I was bowled over by the beauty of that performance which was very similar to the version on this TV special.

A Man and His Music Part II Vs Part I

I hadn't seen these programs for many years. I was expecting the original "AMAHM" to be the better of the two programs but was pleasantly surprised to find that in my mind Part II is the superior program. FS's voice was in great shape in Part II, better than it was for the original AMAHM. The original won an emmy if memory serves me correctly. How did Part II fare?

Every aspect of this program stands out for me. The section with FS surrounded by the orchestra and big band and really, absolutely kicking; the medley of songs of love and loss strung together with "It Was Just One of Those Things" is poignant; the part with Nancy, just great. I even liked a couple of the arrangements that were obviously Jenkins' reworking of Riddle's original work.

A great program. I can't wait until next Sunday.

Okay. It's been a year now. Is TCM planning to replay these Specials again anytime soon? Anyone know?
