    MDA Telethon (1976)

    Broadcast 6th September

Famous for the section where Frank reunited Dean Martin & Jerry Lewis

Mr Sinatra also performed an upbeat (some call it Disco) version of Night & Day, For Once in My Life as well as a medley routine with Dean Martin.

Ahh now this is something I have seen, alas not in it's entirety but I have seen the Dean Martin/Jerry Lewis reunion and it always brings a lump to my throat. Now these obviously are still around and I suppose I can understand why they aren't reshown on tv because being a telethon, presumably they are very long and probably only of interest to fans, but it would be nice to get to see some more, I have never seen Jerry Lewis' MDA telethons, heard lots about them tho. I'd love to see this one

    I REMEMBER IT WELL

I can stilll see flash frames of this wonderful live television moment within the screening room in my head. Only Frank Sinatra could have pulled it off. I would be willing to wager that at least a snippet of the reunion will find its way into the Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon in a few days.

I remember watching this telethon back in '76 and being very excited seeing Dean walk out on stage. It was a very memorable moment.

I worked through the night several times on the MDA telethon, answering phones. When Jerry first started, it used to be from New York -- he would come in once in a while and say hi to the volunteers. I loved doing it.

    Thumbs up MDA Telethon, 1976.......

I'll never forget the surprise i had when Frank came on stage with Dean, for a moment Jerry looked frozen. It was late in the evening, if my memory is correct, it was past midnight[est] and the show was being broadcast from Las Vegas.......Joe..

Me too, Joey. Me too. It was a slow weekend, in Radiology. We spent our time watching the telethon, on a small tv in the lounge. I remember the moment well. Priceless.

I remember iit well. Gosh Rhoda to be on the set with Jerry, Frankie and Dean was amazing. Frank had a way of keeping his pals together.

See this post in the Significant FS Anniversary Dates thread in the Frank Sinatra forum:

September 5, 1976 - FS reunites Martin and Lewis

For the record, the date was actually Sept. 5 (local time in Las Vegas), and these were the songs which FS sang:

    Stargazer
Never Gonna Fall In Love Again

Medley with Dean Martin (following the reunion):

I Can't Give You Anything But Love /
    Too Marvelous For Words /
    Pennies From Heaven /
    A Foggy Day /
    Embraceable You /
The Lady Is A Tramp /
    Where Or When /
I’ve Got The World On A String /
    All Of Me /
    When You’re Smiling

Later in the 24-hour telethon show, FS appeared a second time to sing:

    For Once In My Life
    Embraceable You
    Night And Day

Thumbs up Jerry Lewis like Sinatra is a man who is a giver!

Both Lewis and Frank took of their time and efforts and CASH and put their money where their mouth is and went out of their way to help the less fortunate of this word.
...Jerry really has made his works with MDA a life's passion....
....Seeing Jerry reminds me of those great Vegas days with the Rat Pack......He is one of the last of a breed of Vegas performers who
were lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time and make
    history!
...And Sinatra and Jerry repayed the world for their good fortune and talents by giving to those who were forgotten and handicapped.
...These two men became the champions of the less fortunate and they Shine and stand on the top of the world for the Great works they have done all their lives.
...Thank You Jerry Lewis!....The kids thank you and their parents and
all of America thanks you for your Love of these children.
.... Jerry , your the Best!

    Sinatra 70's on DVD maybe

    Sinatra on the Telethon -

great entertainment, and some rare songs of Sinatra In Concert - those films should be put on DVD, to enjoy again and again!!

there's not much stuff from the 1970's around, he didn't record much, but he was terriffic during that decade!

    Another Sinatra on the Telethon....

Our own Nancy performed live on the Telethon (again) two years ago... or was it three? She sang "Two Shots of Happy." It was early in the show, but shortly after she finished, the pledges had almost doubled. Her reach is long.

    Pack a small bag....

I would loved to have seen that Ace

I wish we could see these telethons here, I would have thought that Sky could broadcast them, I am sure the viewing figures would be very good and they could raise even more money!

I remember the 1976 telethon like it was yesterday.

I often wonder how many people realize what a true act of love that was on Dean's part.

Not only did Dean go to Jerry, but he went onto Jerry's sacred ground to do it.

For years, people have speculated about how Dean really felt about Jerry, but for me, Dean answered the question, in spades, that day.

    Frank Sinatra mini-concerts on the Jerry Lewis telethons 1975, 1976, 1977, 1980

i was just thinking again of Frank Sinatras wonderful mini-concerts on the Jerry Lewis telethon.

an idea came to my mind: maybe those live appearances could be packed ito a DVD, with profits going to the MSD or some other cause close to Jerry or the Sinatra Family.

Nancy wanted to ask Jerry some years back, if the 1980 concert in atlantic city was taped entirely. i wonder if those terriffic performances could see the light of day some time?

here is another thread with this subject

Like some others here, I too remember well that telethon and I saw it live (when Martin & Lewis were reunited by Frank Sinatra).

It was after midnight here in the east, and I had heard that Sinatra would be appearing on the show. I was determined to stay up just to see him perform (this was years before VCRs or DVRs were available and you'd have to catch the action "live, so to speak). I was not disappointed!

That reunion was totally unexpected and was, with the possible exception of watching the first manned landing on the moon, the best thing I've ever seen live on tv!
