This should really be moved to the Frank on TV thread....

Now I know why the Liz Taylor and Tom Bradley references were cleaned up. This will bring in so much via PBS that it had to be sanitized.

For that good cause, I understand and will stand behind it.

Now if they could reair "Vintage Sinatra", or a DVD release perhaps? *cough cough* Santa?

American Public Television

The public television contract for Vintage Sinatra expired August 31, 2005. (From the same website I linked above: See here.) It's been over two years since a commercial DVD release was expected. The only people with that DVD are the lucky ones who made pledges to PBS when that show was on the air. The retail DVD seems to have fallen through the cracks.

At least this time, the DVD came first.

It occurs to me that APT missed a bet here: Since all the items being offered for pledges during the Vegas show are already available at retail outlets, they might have garnered more contributions from Sinatra fans by offering Vintage Sinatra also. I already own Greatest Love Songs and Sinatra: Vegas, so I have little incentive to contribute to PBS this time around.

SINATRA: VEGAS TV Special (2006)

See here for discussion of the PBS TV program based on the DVD video of the FS 1978 Caesar's Palace show contained in the Sinatra: Vegas box set:

Sinatra: Vegas TV Special

(Moderator Note: The above linked thread is suitable for merging into this one.)

I've started a thread in the Frank On TV forum for the PBS program (as opposed to the 5-disc box set):

SINATRA: VEGAS TV Special (2006)

Further comments should be directed to that thread. (And perhaps this thread could be merged into that one?)

I will be there for sure!

We saw Mr. S. in Caesars, not sure if it was 1978 or 1979. It was October or early November. I love PBS!

Bob - If we merge your thread with this one your post will be down in the list as you started your thread a day later. Do you still want the merger?

Yes, I expected that. (Just keep the new title from my post in the other thread.) Thanks, Nancy.

In reading the Press Kit on the airing, they are offering the DVD seperately as a one level gift unavailable anywhere else. It will be interesting to see the packaging on that.

Frank in Vegas

I watched the show last night and loved every minute of it. That was Frank at his best in many ways, especially working the audience.

As always, Frank Sinatra is the best.

That is not a consideration since the monologues, along with the backstage footage before/after the show (plus one song—"Something"), are not included in the PBS broadcast.

FS really emoted on "Something" in that Concert, using his hands to discribe shapes and curves and movement like the artist he was.
