If you get this one you really are very old or very clever. I doesn't google, the wrong lyric comes up. It would have been around 1952, a male singer like Tennessee Ernie or Phil Harris and it's driven me mad for years.

I like my eggs over easy and my coffee black,
I like my steak nice and juicy or my money back,
I like my girlfriends ready when I'm ready to call
And that ain't all!

Hey Good Lookin', what'ya got cooking, how's about cooking something up for me.
Tennessee Ernie and Helen O'Conell although I always thought it was Jo Stafford.

Those stumbling words that told you what my heart meant.

Hank Williams was the first with "Hey, Good Looking," and of note it was used at his wife's funeral, as well.

sounds like Dylan's "Times they are a-changing".

Shining down - I guess that was Blossom Dearie.

new lyric: "Set aside like a doll on a shelf"

So he was Joe but we didn't buy much Hank here in the UK in our youth, it was all Tennessee Ernie and JohnnyRay.

but Shining Down? Pencils come from Pensylvania is Blossom Dearie's Little Old Rhode Island as Bren said.

Thought Jo Stafford was in there somewhere Bren....keep smiling through? our Vera? We'll meet again.

and that's Ask Any Girl john

January, February, June or July

A bit of a cheat here - I used to hear that song in S.F. on "Big Band Jump", and I kept a journal, which I just contacted, to find that song to be "Rhode Island is famous for you".

I've never been to RI, although my friend's estranged daughter ran off to Providence recently. (what's up there?)

In "Shining down," the lyric reads...."Pencils come from Pennsylvania,
Vests from West Virginia, Tents from Tennessee."

John of Philly's song is "Ask any Girl," from the Supremes. No idea about Bren's.

Bren's is a stumper. Any clues? No doubt it's got a gentle tempo, possibly a Matt Monro type.

It's not Matt Monroe John, I had the record by Mel Torme and it was written by Gerry Mulligan. That is your clue
