College Football - 2009

As usual I'm pulling for The University of Minnesota but this is my nephew's first year playing for Hamline University in St. Paul and my sister just texted me to say that, at the end of the third, his team is winning 31-0.

Thanks for starting the thread Greg...Hope the Gophers win against Air Force tonight. The Nittany Lions had an easy win today versus Syracuse..Tonight will be a big showdown for Ohio State and USC...That is cool your nephew is playing college football...what position is he? Take care...Amy

I think so far Florida and Texas have looked the best, although they have been untested.

And USC and Michigan have looked very good , and they have won big games. It should be an interesting year.

Hey Greg...Your Gophers sure played well against CAL...they gave it a good fight..I wish they would have won...I love their new stadium..Our Lions did ok (against Temple), tho many of the players had the flu or were fighting it...Next week will be the test for us against Iowa..You will have to look for me in the end zone..My dad and I will be there..It is an 8:00 game and the ESPN College gameday game..It will be crazy..

Yeah but the final was Cal 35, MN 21 :*)

Good luck to Penn State against Iowa next week. That will be a good game. We're playing Northwestern.

UCLA must be played as I type this, I can't find a score.

UCLA v. K-State started at 9:30 central time. I made through the first quarter. K-State lost 23-9 which wasn't as bad as I imagined. One of the K-State said "We are a work in progress." Ron Prince really left the cubbard empty when Bill Synder returned.

Oh well PSU just couldn't pull it together tonight against Iowa.I just got home...Iowa played a great game..I went with my dad and despite the pouring rain and losing we had a great time..We cheered, we yelled, we sighed..It was just a special time..I love to see him still get so excited about his alma mater..I'll have to post some pics tomorrow..

Terrible news.

USC's Stafon Johnson in "critical but stable" condition

USC running back Stafon Johnson is still in surgery at California Hospital Medical Center near downtown. His condition was "critical but stable" as of about 7:20 tonight, according to a hospital spokesperson.

The senior from Dorsey High was just starting a set of bench press lifts when he apparently lost control of the bar and it landed on his neck.

Local news said he was still in surgery at 9 pm from this morning.

Good lord. I hope he's getting expert attention.

Where were his spotters? Spotters were mandatory when I was doing free weights.

Pete Carroll said his spotter was right there. Only one side of the bar fell on his throat. The surgery took seven hours.

I wish him only the best, Nancy. I know that this must be a painful time for his family.

One of the doctors said on the news today that if Stafon had not been an athlete, had he not had the musculature he has, he would have died.
