It's nearly that time again. We are preparing to retain the ashes - no problem. Can't wait for the start. (It's no good you Aussies tying to phsyc us out, we are much too intelligent)

The Ashes thread

The most anticipated series for a long time gets underway tomorrow.
For my dear English friends I hope you do well but I really hope you get a nice ol' fashioned belting at the hands of Ponting, OOH AHH Glen McGrath and last but not least the great man himself, WARNIE .
If we do all right you will read it here first, if your blokes do okay then I suggest you buy a paper and read about it .

Good luck to all involved in the series and may the best team win

6-1 for England to win 1st test!

I wont be going down to see Mr ladbroke not even at 6-1.
One guy i know has been trying to change his body clock over recent weeks..sleeping in the day and staying up at night just so he can be ready to watch the games (starting at midnight) on sky tv.
Whoops....just checked teletext 57/0 after 12...5 an over....Bring back Bob Willis!!

Stumps day one:
Australia 3 for 346.
This has set us up well for the first test with "Punter" hitting a nice ton and if he can turn it into a big one then I think it will make a big statement about the rest of the series.
So another hot day in the field tomorrow for the Poms but if they can get us out quickly and cheaply then their batsmen should do well on a pretty good 'Gabba' wicket.

Mark, that's real dedication,(trying to change his body clock) but it doesn't surprise me. My two boys would have walked out on their jobs just to be there in Oz at this time.
Nothing much more to say other than COME ON ENGLAND

I was attempting to explain cricket (and especially the significance of the Ashes) at work today, with little success, I mean it's difficult enough in English to clarify the sport to the uninitiated, try in pigeon German. I think I was on a sticky wicket when I put forward the proposition that the importance of the game really is the true mark of civilistation in any country.

Judging from today's play it seems that the Aussies must have a civilisation somewhere on a par with the planet Michael Rennie and Gort came from in "The Day The Earth Stood Still" as opposed to England who are veritable Klingons in comparison.

Gary - just remember last time we won the Ashes no-one thought we had a chance, early days yet. I sat up very late last night to watch - doesn't start until 12oclock here managed to get to lunch break. Was dissappointed with our performance, but just wait until Harmison finds his mark, you ol' ossie boy's won't be laughing then.

Marty, I understand your difficulty in trying to explain cricket to our european cousins, try explaining it to a 85 year old Scottish lady (my mum) Dad (the same age) is staying up well into the early hours so he doesn't miss a thing and she is about to divorce him.
So come on for the sake of my parents marriage

Your right there Mark, especially after last nights performance
Mind you am getting very tired staying up so late, we'll just have to beat them that much quicker, so i can get some sleep.
