I'll respond, and I'm sorry I didn't the first time, but the local media are totally out of control. Each network is trying to out-sensationalize the others, and these poor bastards are already hanging from the gallows.

Not saying they don't deserve it, but let's get a grip... I don't see how any of them can get a fair trial at this point.

Amen, Judy. I still carry fury in my heart about that.

I usually stay away from topics like this..but, if guilty, they deserve all of the public and medias witchhunt...If innocent allow the legal system to prove their innocence..

This is sick...

The if is the key word. The lurid details made the papers here as well, I see absolutely no need to report the allegations in such detail, we all know what abuse is, the details are sickening.

I disagree..We all do not know what abuse is.... unless you have been one of the abused, those are the ones that can understand, because they are the ones that live that abuse everyday of their lives...Most abuser have been able to continue that sick way of living because this particular topic has always been kept in silence. It is about time the public and media attack with vengence Save the innocence of children....

What an absolute mess..I am emotionally a wreck and have not slept well this whole week..it is just terrible about the victims and tonight around 10,000 students, staff, faulty alumni held a candlelight for the victims..It has become a media frenzy wit hundreds of reporters both locally and nationally feedingy the frenzy,,unfortunatley the media has been making broad generalizations about Penn State and all that it is,,I have to take offense as we are much more than football..we are 95% a geat institution with great faculty, researchers, and staff..Some media are lumping under the same Category of SANDUSKY..i just don't know what to say except prayers for the victims..A lot of bad has happened and I can only hope and pray that things calm down..please help keep the victims and those of us trying to survive in your prayers

I don't get that either. Their priorities are with football more than human decency.

Have those students no decency, or dignity, for that matter?

I totally agree with you. A winning sports team and it's winning coach is apparently exempt from the law. Remember Bobby Knight? The biggest a$$w#@le that ever stepped on the basketball court. Indiana allowed him to be as mean as we wanted and they would turn the other cheek. The college had to be shamed into admitting Knight was a very sick person.

I am pretty certain that if this story had not gotten the media coverage it has (and believe me, it deserves it) Paterno would not have been let go.

Universities are wonderful institutions for any community and the last thing they want is negative publicity. Penn State will get through this... eventually.

If the people responsible for the employees of Penn State had done the right thing from the beginning and informed the police immediately Penn State would be HEROS saving the innocence of children instead, how they look today, because of their arrogant and selfish decision they made at that time.

WE MUST PROTECT ALL CHILDREN..

I am not trying to dismiss the actions of students who rioted and are still supporting Joe Paterno..If anyone saw there was a vigil held on campus that over 10,000 students attended in support of the victims and there were victims that spoke out about the heinous crimes of pedophiles. My heart just grieves for the victims, who this evil man has so destroyed so many lives.

When the news was announced late at night that their idol, hero, grandfatherly image of Penn State had been fired , many of these kids in their immaturity and lack of complete understanding of the gravity of the situation were looking to express their feelings of shock, anger, disbelief, and feeling that their "hero" that many of them had been following since little kids had been fired..the perfect storm exploded as preparations had not been made to anticipate the explosion The information of the board was released at 10 pm..They were only hearing that Joe had done what was legal in terms of reporting it and to them and it sure seemed in town the most attention was on him instead of the accused pedophile Jerry Sandusky who is free on bail (GODS KNOW WHY HE IS FREE)..We are all in a state of shock as we are finding out those that we have trusted with our children, with our leadership have betrayed us..I have gone through so much shock, anger, denial sadness and the full gamete of emotions this week it is so hard to even put into words what this has meant to me.

Please do not say that our students have no dignity, or decency..We have some of the very best and brightest students and most of them want justice for the victims..Penn State/Alum/students in 3 days has raised almost $300,000 for the victims and last year our student body raised over 9 million for pediatric cancer,,,I know that many of you including me are appalled that Joe did not do more along with the President, AD and Finance Director..There was a cover-up of major proportions and it will take time to figure it all out..It is very hard when you live and work here to come to grips with such horrific things. 10 or so years ago when I went to church ,I sat with Jerry Sanduskey and his elderly mother several times with my kids..He was the nicest man and gave so much to his church and community (as many pedophiles do) I also have met Paterno several times and I have always had the utmost respect for all that he did for his players and the university community..How many college coaches donate millions to a school library and a religious center on campus..He has become a sad and sorry old man. Many of the kids on Wednesday, sadly took their confusion, anger and disbelief to some minor rioting..It was he college students that cleaned up the town and ten organized an appropriate candle light vigil which I think gave them a better appreciation of the situation and that Penn State was much more than football or Joe Paterno..I have no idea of how things will play out as it is a very fluid confusing situation. Those involved need to be held accountable.I ask for your prayers for the victims as well as those of us here that are just hurting on so many levels..thank you

Amy -- I thought of you immediately, as these tragic events began to unfold. I have so many dear friends from the Philadelphia area, whose kids went to PSU, and I feel terrible for them! At this point, the one solace I can offer is Nancy's famous "don't despair!"

This has been on my mind too. I would have thought any compassionate human being would have done this very thing. This is all so unbelievable, and truly sickening.

You never know until it's you in that situation. We'd like to think we'd do the right thing at that first moment, but we don't know if it's fight or flight for us. What we do know is that the grad assistant chose to run away. Sadly, McQueary's action proved to be one of a coward.

Very true Dean..It could be a classic example of what psychologists call the bystander effect..I think for outsiders not knowing the grad assistant McQuery, it is important to know the background, before making rash judgments..We would all like to think we would act in a heroic and ethical way and it is easy to make speculation but unless we were there and knew the history we cannot fairly judge..The grad assistant had literally grown up with Sandusky, was friends with his son, and had this image as many that Sandusky was an honorable man..To suddenly find yourself encountering a man, similar to your own father, engaged in such lewd unbelievable behavior, could be such a shocking, disturbing and unbelievable event..He was in a flight or fight dilemma in his mind..He chose to leave, and immediately contact his father and then talk to Paterno the next day..One has to also imagine the politics, power, fear, and your own personal safety in making a statement. I wish as many that he would have done something..While some see him a coward for not doing something at the time..he tried to confront a very powerful institution..How this did not go further ANGERS me to no end...I'm not defending McQueary in his part but trying to give some insight to some that can't understand why he just didn't stop it as it was happening. This whole thing is just sickening to me..this is just some perspective of many until the truth if ti ever comes out.

I never meant to cause any sorrow or pain with my last post in this thread. It was not my intention to do that, but apparently I have, and I am very sorry for that.

Upon further review of what has happened, I sincerely hope that this evil and pernicious person - Sandusky - is made to pay dearly for his deeds.
