I think it's 45 years but I'm not sure. Maybe somebody else knows.

Los Angeles is celebrating tonight.

have to admit I needed to google The Stanley Cup and was disappointed to discover it wasn't awarded for the year's best on ice performance of Porgy & Bess.

I am so glad to see the Kings finally win the Stanley Cup - after 45 years of trying!

I suppose there are others in the Los Angeles sports scene who may envy what the Kings have done, but I say, be proud!

Congratulations to the LA Kings! I always like to see a team win that has never won a championship.

The LA Kings were born in 1967 with the first major expansion of the NHL from 6 teams to 12 that year - the original owner, Jack Kent Cooke, (Yep a Canadian) also owned at one time or another the Lakers, Washington Red Skins along with the Kings. The Kings struggled at the gate for many years and when told that more than 300,000 Canadians were in the LA area he quipped "now I know why they left - they all hate hockey!"

Well now all of LA loves a winner - congratulations to the Kings!!

Edmonton lost their treasure to the Kings in an inevitable trade to end all trades, and I still feel bad when I think about it. Two words: Wayne Gretzky. I was 13 then, the Calgary Olympics showed how great Canada and Alberta was (damn Calgary ) we won our fourth Stanley Cup, and then boom.....

We still won again with St. Albert's Marc Messier leading the Oil, but somehow someone was missing.

As LA wins, for an Edmontonian with a heart for the Oilers you can't help but be happy for LA but at the same time think of the greatest loss the Oilers ever had, on or off the ice.
