Caroline's Boots

my daughter, caroline, turned 18 months this morning...and we dressed her in a cute cowgirl shirt and jeans this morning, with her RED boots (complete with bows on the toe)

whenever she wears those, i have to play nancy's recording for her to start the day -- and she's just adorable grinning and dancing to it

i need to take a picture or something

This gives me an idea

Perhaps I should cover "Boots" and make it a big hit from the male point of view.

....nah, it just occurred to me that it would be construed as misogyny and thrown into the Eminem section. Never mind. Another bad idea.

Anybody hungry for lunch?

"Boots" was originally written for a guy, it was Nancy who decided it would work being sung by a woman. As usual, she was right.

I didn't know that, Susan

It must have bombed until Nancy did it. That bass riff and her attitude on the song should be trademarked. My daughter sings it all of the time......she's only heard Nancy's version. We won't let her see the other one. She's too young.

VH1 had Nancy's "video" of "Boots" on the other day and Kate's been blasting it all week. She recorded it on the DVR.

I agree, which I'm sure is not a shock to anyone. I'm happy to see that even after the hype of the latest version, it is still referred to in the press as Nancy Sinatra's These Boots Are Made For Walkin' as it should be. She owns it, and always will.

The Pizza Hut commercials make me ill for a number of reasons.

Thanks guys. The bass riff belongs to Lee Hazlewood, Billy Strange and bassist, Chuck Bergofer. I own the master is all. I gave the riff to Jessie Simpson for her record because she politely asked for it. I asked her to pay Chuck for his performance. She did.

By own, I didn't mean literally. I mean you will always "own" the definitive version. Others may copy and in many cases slaughter it, but it will always be yours.

Understood

I knew that, cutie. I was only talking about the bass line.

You were very generous with your and Chuck's bass line. I'm glad you reminded her to pay him.

Mrs. Miller recorded These Boots are Made for Walkin'. Really? That's like Marlene Deitrich doing, Blowin' In the Wind.

I'm having fun imagining Diana Ross's plosive not terribly articulate voice attempt Boots.
Mrs. Miller must have been entertaining with it.
Imagine it attempted by Montserrat Cabballe or Kate Smith.

Has anyone heard Crispin Glover's version?

It's really creepy.

I sang "Boots" once. It was a fraternity prank. It never threatened the charts.
