I just watched it on DVR. They ended the 5th season with a musical bang! How exciting! Nancy, did you know they were going to do that?

The internet is alive with "Mad Men recap" articles (google it), including this item from the series' creator, Matthew Weiner!

Nancy - stop by "Basket of Kisses" blog - you've visited there before - there was a "Mad Men" party in NYC last night - and folks were thrilled w/the finale song!

That recording is timeless, and one of my all time favorites as well.
Kudos to the series for giving it mass recent airplay. As to the steamy series itself, I'm sure it's compelling. Probably not unlike the telenovelas I'm using to learn a language the entertaining way.

You know, I was always expecting a Sinatra song to play on Mad Men at some point. Especially during the earlier seasons. I just didn't know which Sinatra's voice would turn up on the show.
The fifth season of Mad Men has been a dream-like affair: drifting further into uncertainty and unrest as the world changes around Don Draper, a man seemingly capable of great change and yet none at all. This song was a capstone for a magnificent season of television. It just all fit so perfectly. And it is easily one of my favorite songs ever. So there is that added plus. From one of my favorite Bond movies. That shot where Don is walking away from Megan on that expansive soundstage in itself is like a dream: a dream that's lost to Don. Whether he likes it or not, his impulse is to retreat back into himself. Now, if we get to hear Frank's "A Man Alone," on the series finale... I'll just cry for joy. |

This is a big deal. When the song started, I got so excited. And listened to it with fresh ears. Brilliant!
