Here's what I know:
www.rosemaryclooney.com reports she's doing pretty well but is still at the Mayo Clinic. Still, a date for the Rosemary Clooney in her home state of Kentucky is on the schedule for this Fall. Keep praying for Rosie and I'm sure she'll make it through. |

Rosemary Clooney
I'm hearing word that Rosemary Clooney has died. Anyone have any info?
If the news is true, what a tremendous loss. An absolutely wonderful singer from the '40s right into the new millennium. Anyone who hasn't heard her should IMMEDIATELY check out her album with the Ellington orchestra ("Blue Rose") or her other gems like "Swing Around Rosie," "Rosie Solves The Swinging Riddle," "Sentimental Journey"... the list is a long one indeed. And of course who can forget her swingin' 1950 duet with Mr. Sinatra himself on "Peachtree Street"! Anyway, I hope someone can tell me that news of her demise is premature. Pal Joey

Sleep Warm
It is sad, but true, Rosemary Clooney has died from lung cance, at the age of 74.. She managed to pull herself together after a very abusive marriage with Jose Ferrer. She had 5 or 6 children with Jose Ferrer . Her career was brilliant as a singer. A great personlity with a great voice. It was said "like many singers" she had to sing some muic she did not approve of "Come On To My House" was one of them. It became a hit for her, but she did like the song. She went through some very personal problems and got well then got back to singing and performing. Sleep warm and peaceful, Rosemary Clooney.

Rosie Clooney's singing with Frank again
As I'm sure most of you heard by now, Rosemary Clooney died lastnight from lung cancer.
Those of us who love the great American popular music are losing our heroes one by one. Ms. Clooney was an inspiration to me. I've been listening to the Clooney/Sinatra sides from the Columbia box. Some say they're not great records...forgive me if I disagree. Dear Rosie...rest in peace...and say hi to Frank for us. |

LA Times Obit
Here's a link to a good obit that appeared in the LA Times today. A great loss to
music. Clooney is a good example of how important it is having a record company that understands your music. Concord records & Clooney were the perfect match, and IMHO, she did her best work with Concord. She'll be missed. A tough woman who overcame a lot of stuff in her life, and created a timeless body of work. http://www.latimes.com/news/printedi...Dtodays2Dtimes |

A Sad Day For The Music World
I know she will be missed by many! She was a great Lady! She loved her family very much. I always loved her mellow voice!
I also always admired her for the way she dealt with many problems she had and the way she over-came them and moved on with her life! Frank had once described Rosemary as "a symbol of modern American Music." RIP Sweet Rosemary!!! Lynda51 |

"Come Ona My House"
Was watching "Sunday Morning" just now and learned of Rosemary Clooney's passing. She was a glorious singer and during the segment gave homage to Frank Sinatra for his expertise with lyrics. She complimented him on finishing the end of words and consonents. She admired him greatly.
She recalled that at one time, George Clooney, was known as Rosmemary Clooney's nephew and as he become more and more well known, she was known as George Clooney's aunt. She had a wonderful sense of humor and such talent. We'll miss you Rosie...say hi to Frank and all the greats up there. jeane/frankphan

Be happy for her
She now joins Peggy, Perry, Francis & the Rat Pack.
I'm happy for her for being at rest. What great thing will she miss here in the mortal world? Hip-hop? Corporate irresponsibility? McDonald's? The only thing that saddens me is the idea that every last living remnant of the golden era seems to be passing... Niagara Falls is waiting up ahead - for you and me.

I woke up this a.m. to hear this news from my husband, and I have to say that this one hit me hard. Rosemary Clooney could interpret lyrics beautifully. Even when some of her vocal power faded, she could still get the emotion behind a song across in a powerful way.
She recorded a lot of pop songs, a lot of silly, fun songs, but when she had a meaningful lyric, she sure gave it her all. And she had a long, wonderful career. What a voice. She was truly one of the greats. I'm grateful for all the cds that will allow us to continue to enjoy her wonderful music for years to come. |

What a Shock!
I saw an interview this morning on CBS w/Charles Osgood and Rosie, but had no idea she had passed away! I did miss the first segment, however, which may have been when it was mentioned. We don't listen to the radio and don't turn on the TV until 6, so Doug, appreciate your posting it for all of us who keep Sundays free of news-bad and rarely ever good.
My husband dated Rosie's sister many, many years ago, but he never had the honor of meeting Rosemary. Next to Doris Day, I think she was one of the greatest "gal" Sinatra-type (if there is such a word) singer/phraser there was. She has a great duet w/Michael Finestein on his Gershwin album. He felt so honored to just be able to play for her, much less have a duet! Such a loss! But she'll join up w/Francis, Dean & Sammy and will have a heavenly quartet! Rest in peace, dear sweet lady. |
