    The Music of Burt Bacharach

I find Burt Bacharach and Hal David's music to be some of the best of the 1960's & 70's.

I would be very interested in hearing what others here feel about their music....

Some of the artists that recorded their music include:
Dionne Warwick, The Drifters, Chuck Jackson, The Shirelles, Gene Pitney, Jerry Butler, Dusty Springfield, Jackie DeShannon, Tom Jones, The Carpenters, The 5th Dimension, The Stylistics, Christopher Cross and others.

    who here is a fan?

There are also two Bacharach-David entries in the Sinatra songbook: "Wives and Lovers" (1964) and "Close To You" (1970).

I think Bacharach also did extremely well in his arranging & conducting work for Marlene Dietrich, whom he accompanied on several albums and tours for more than a decade.

Their music is great! I've always enjoyed it, particularly their work with Dionne Warwick. They were a wonderful team!

    Thumbs up Burt Bacharach.

I'm a great fan of Burt Bacharach for a very long time. I love to hear Dionne Warwick sing his compositions. What made me very happy was to find on the boxed set "The Look of Love - The Burt Bacharach Collection", by Rhino, the song "Nikki" with The Burt Bacharach Orchestra and Chorus (a single released by Liberty Records in 1966). What I didn't knew is that the song Nikki was composed for his daughter Nikki, who was born three months prematurely and both she and her mom Angie, barely survived the delivery. Burt told more later "But they made it, and now that greatfulness is so strong that I will never take what I've got for granted." Nikki was also the theme to "The ABC Movie Of The Week" which began a six year run in 1969.

Burt is fantastic although his music is very tough to sing. He pushes a singer to the top and bottom of the register and tests the flexibility of the voice with tricky intervals. And when he performs his own songs it seems effortless.

Just for fun, try to sing, Do You Know the Way to San Jose. and no cheating!

didn't work out too well. My neighbors called the police. They thought I was torturing small animals.

Unhappy A catastrophe. I lost my way to San Jose.

    Dear Friend Nancy.

"Anyone Who Had a Heart" and " Wishin' and Hopin' " are also very difficult to sing.

Well...anything it's hard for me to sing because my voice is terrible.

    Love,

I loved singing Wishin' and Hopin'. It's a terrific song. My version of it is in a Bacharach collection the Varese Sarabande label.

    Bacharach Album Mid Sixties

There was an album he made probably '66 or '67. I can't for the life of me remember which one it was.

We displayed it at the checkout stand, at Wallich's. It was right next to my reception booth. I fell in love with his picture.

One morning, early, I came to work and my manager asked me to come to his office. He asked me if I would like to meet Burt Bacharach, I said, "Of course!" Thinking he was kinda silly early in the morning.

I walk out of his office and down by my booth, near the front of the store, stands Burt. I was introduced to him and don't think I pulled my jaw off the floor for a couple of hours. I had my picture taken with him, to advertise "The Album," I spoke of, in Cashbox.
I looked horrible and he looked fantastic, of course!

P.S. You're right Nancy. I tried "Anyone Who Had a Heart," just now, and I was asked to leave the building immediately

    Dear Friend Nancy.

I like very much the energic and,at the same time, delicate way you sing " Wishin' and Hopin' ". The cd/album I have you singing this song is on "Nancy In London", by Sundazed for cd and Reprise for long play. Is the version on The Bacharach Collection , by Varèse Sarabande, the same version ? I will search for this cd.

    Love,

    Jerry

I used to have a very good voice, I used to sing in many shows. I danced in many shows, and played the accordion in shows too.

Heck, I wanted to be in show business so bad, but the folks were old fashioned and said I'd be a baaaaaaaaad girl if I did, so -- woe is me, I wound up a 9 to 5er, in banking.

As I mentioned before my favorite Burt song is Raindrops.

Well I just tried to sing Raindrops, I started out fine but eventually the range became to great for me to handle. BJ Thomas is probably a tenor anyway. But there are some weirdly bended notes and intervals involved. But that is what makes Bacharach so unique.
