Perry Como

Perry Como was a lovely man which I will never forget his voice was so sweet and presented his gentleness he will be missed. I was saddened there wasn't very many tributes to this man at his passing. I just heard a quick snippit that he had died on ET. Its sad to see how some people forget the great singeres of his time. Fortunately this has not happened to Mr. Sinatra.I am listening to your song "Make Someone Happy" and I know you made us all very happy Mr. Como RIP.
Ciao

Perry Como

Melissa, thanks for posting about Perry. Some of his biggest hits were "Till The End Of Time",(ironic, isn't it?), "Round And Round", "It's Impossible", "Prisoner Of Love", and, a lost gem, which he recorded in the mid sixties, "Seattle", which was inspired by the tv show, "Here Comes The Brides". He also had a hit, with,"And I Love Her So".
He had a very popular program,in the 60s', on NBC, which, if I recall correctly, was originally titled, "The Kraft Music Hall", which Perry was the host. I believe he eventualy got the network to, either change the title, or, give him his own show.
Perry was also a pretty fair actor.Unfortunately, he will probably only be remembered for his singing-and, his sweaters he would wear.

R.I.P. Mr. Como

Perry Como

Como led a very quiet personal life. He wanted it that way. I really enjoyed his TV shows and I have a few on tape. He was a very nice man. When I lived in Maspeth, NY, his personal tailor was my neighbor.

Perry Como

F.Y.I. I don't know when you saw this, on E.T., but, Perry Como passed away, on May 13, 2001. If you wish to research his career further, go to the ABC News.com, archives. It seems he did his show on NBC longer than even I remembered him doing one.

Yes its great music

Yeah I wish I had lived through the time when Perry and Frank were at the height of their careers and I being able to hop down to Vegas to catch them in a live show or something. That truly would be a "Magic Moment" as Perry would say! I just recently discovered this type of music and I love it !no perormer today can compare to them . I mean these people are legends and I guess because they were different.. no one on earth sang like Nat King Cole etc... We have too few legends left I mean could you ever imagine britney spears becoming a legend... some say she is a modern day Marilyn I very much disagree.

Mr. Perry Como

The singing barber's biography is on tonight on A&E at 6 pm and 9 pm Pacific Time. Let's all make someone happy as during this holiday time. That is how Perry would have wanted it to be......
"Make someone happy, fame if you win it comes and goes in a minute, where is the real stuff in life to cling to?....love is the answer, make someone happy , make just one someone happy and you will be happy too!"

Season Greetings!

By every account, Mr. C was a super singer and a real gentleman, besides. On Christmas Day, my family and I watched a video, issued by the Reader's Digest, consisting of highlights of his various Christmas shows over the years. No one could sing the Schubert "Ave Maria" with quite the same conviction he could. FS was reportedly a fan of his. Como, who would have been 90 this year, will be much missed.

"And if we stay in the right direction
Heaven can't be very far.
Dream along with me.
I'm on my way to a star."

Mr. C

I am a fan of 'the singing barber,' aswell. Every other day or so, I pull out one of his LP's from my collection and give it a spin.

I watched his biography on A&E the other night, Melissa. It was great!

Ciao for now,
Gord

Let's Celebrate Perry Como

Perry Como was born Pierino Como on May 18, 1912. He was apprenticed as a barber at the age of 12, and he took over an established business at the age of 14. In 1933, Perry auditioned for bandleader Freddie Carlone. In 1935, he joined Ted Weems Orchestra and recorded for the Decca label. Perry's first recording for RCA Victor was "Goodbye Sue" on December 1943. And the rest was history!! Perry passed away on May 12, 2001. He had many hit singles and albums. Some of my favorites are Till the End of Time, Some Enchanted Evening, Prisoner of Love, And I Love You So, Don't Let the Stars Get In Your Eyes, No Other Love, Wanted, Catch a Falling Star, It's Impossible, Hot Diggity, and Papa Loves Mambo. So everyone, let's pay tribute to Perry, a wonderful talent!

Como sang at White House with Sinatra. William B. Williams who named Sinatra "The Chairman of the Board" named Como "Mr. Class". It was once written that he was the only performer in a business rife with jealousy that not a single bad thing was ever said about.Perry Como In Italy: Terrific album. Not yet on cd here in US. Best, Ron.

mr. class, mr. c

alittle late on a reply, but william b. williams was right on the money about perry como. never a bit of bad press, a true family man and one hell of a good singer. i might also add that perry was one smart business man. he continued to perform into his late 70's, just like sinatra. a class act like his is hard to follow. god bless you mr.c., [alias mr. class].
